FL-300 Strange Behaviour?

Help!

I have an FL-300. At switch on with new batteries inserted, I get the response of the green and yellow control lights to the rear of the unit continuously flashing together. At switch off the lights go off. At the new start up, the lights come on one at a time alternately, and then quickly go into the same mode of flashing together. This effects the normal use of the flashgun, as no other action is possible, other than switching the unit off.

Has anyone witnessed this type of action?
Can anybody help to resolve this situation and help me to reclaim the normal use of the flash unit, please?

Regards
JohnWB
