fly me to the moon

It is nice and clear overhead tonight.

Just the full frame as shot. Processed from Raw, passed through Topaz, sharpened and then added border.

Quite pleased as I don't normally shoot at night.

Thanks Huw. It was my Bigma at 500mm on the 1.4 teleconverter balanced on the bedroom window frame (rather than a tripod)... The light changed shortly after this shot but I have a few to play with.

My son said to blow one up and print it out. I'm not sure if it will work but may try.

Re: fly me to the moon

Yes, a very good picture, but probably too much noise to blow it up a lot

James You are probably right. I put it through Topaz but there is noise. I'll take more care of the Raw conversion on the picture for print see if I can minimise it. Thanks - Peter

Re: fly me to the moon

with a bit more care in the raw development the noise has all but gone.

I think it should be Ok.

Re: fly me to the moon

Well done Peter. You took a great opportunity and your image here really does justice to the occasion. The second processing has provided much better clarity and sharpness.
Getting the exposure right for this type of shoot can be a bit of a challenge but you have achieved that well. The composition with the plane, moon and sky gives good balance. An all round good result which should look good in print.

Re: fly me to the moon

Peter - you are too kind. It was a quick reaction to seeing the moon in such wonderful light and the plane was a bonus. It would have been even nicer if it had flown across it . I have not tried night shooting before but will look out for opportunities now.

Derek- thank you. Very kind words too.

best wishes

Re: fly me to the moon

Peter,

Great shot and in good company: A similar photo with the plane flying across the moon won the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the year a couple of years ago. I believe it won a category along the lines of "human interaction with the environment."
