Geotagging

I have heard that I can geo tag my photos using an ap on smart phone. I have rescued my smartphone and am now ready yo give it a go, but haven't a clue how to start. Had a quick look at the Oly site but no help, probably not using correct terminology.

Can someone help me?

Re: Geotagging

I don't use it myself, as I've never seen the need, but please let me know how you get on with it and what use you make of it.

Re: Geotagging

Yes I will, when I have dowloaded the software for my phone onto my wife laptop, (windows only, very helpful I don't think Samsung). Then to move it to my smart phone, (not sure it is so smart) then download something to my phone which will enable me to download something else that will enable me to do what I want.

Re: Geotagging

That sounds very complicated! There is an app you can download from the app store for iOS. You would expect Android to have a similar one to download.

It is very useful as long as you remember to start tracking before snapping!

Re: Geotagging

If this works it should take you to a link in the google play store:

Pass me the cut throat somebody. To get this app I need google play, and if I don't have it on my phone, tough, I cannot get it.

I have it one one of my cameras (not Oly unfortunately) and I use it occasionally - it's very good for plotting an unfamiliar route and tagging key sights onto that map. The way the world is going I suspect that news channels and wildlife photo comps will make it compulsory on the fairly near future.

Interesting: Considering the rise in "faked" Natural History images, I expect you could be right. I've seen some comp. rules that say the RAW file may be requested.

Re: Geotagging

I think I will give this a miss. I only wanted it so I had the location in EXIF. But what I will do now is to make a video of the location, saying where I am! Problem solved.

And they would still need the raw file as you can fake the geotagging even on a raw file.

Re: Geotagging

Asking for RAW files is not new. It makes sense to me.

As long as you know where you have been why not geotag them in LR or your dam program of choice?

Re: Geotagging

Could do, but all I need to know is the location. I visit places, and sometimes the locations get merged, especially when cruising.
