Land's Beginning

If Land's End is at, well, Land's End (note that the apostrophe is now official), then the other end of mainland Britain must be at Land's Beginning - better known to all as John O'Groats.

Whilst in Aberdeen for a week we thought we would strike north as this being the best opportunity we were likely to get to make it up there. Little has changed since I was last there in my youth as its still a bleak and desolate spot but there are now a few souvenir shops, somewhere to eat, and somewhere to... well you know.

Just so we know we are in the right place.

The souvenir shop on the path to the....

...Harbour

My first sighting of a wild seal

The "Nomadic Boulders of John O'Groats" are meant to cpature the sadness and joy of the sea. The sculpture was unveiled to a crowd of 100 people in 2015 with a poem recited by local school pupils and to the sound of bagpipes.

Trying to be artistic on the shoreline.

Like that sculpture with the little castle behind it. Nice set of photos....

Have been there years ago, and would like to further north to the Orkneys...

I've often wondered what there was to see at John o' Groats ... now I know, thanks to you!

Thank you Mark. Yes, Orkneys would be nice; as would the Shetlands.
