The baby Wombat is not a domesticated animal, Steve. This little guy was orphaned and rescued by a kind lady friend when its mother was road killed. Whatwas so amazing is that a domestic cat should have befriended it before it was released back into the wild to resume being a real dinkie-di Wombat!
Wonderful thread with some great stories, but I laughed out loud when I saw the cat and the wombat!

Apart from our three dogs, three chooks & a snake, we also have two Bearded Dragons. Here's one of them.

I have 4 house rabbits at the moment, and had several over the years. I think they make the best pets, although be very careful with your cables, as unfortunately, one of my previous ones (Charlie) bit through the vacuum cable that i had left plugged in, and passed away the following day.
My current baby, who is the only one to have the run of the full house has so far, in 2 years gone through, 2 carpets, a corner of the chair, my very expensive wallpaper which was only a few hours old my daughters wallpaper, my sons wall, a rug, he loves barbie dolls, skirting boards..........the list goes on.
May I suggest, if you have any probs with chewing, get some lemon scented spray from the petshop which is meant for deterring cats from scratching. It is very bitter, and should work, as it has with all my others, however, Tigger is a strange little thing, and loves it!
Good luck.
We've had to replace a telephone cable from a rabbit we had some years ago too. Nice little chew marks it made.

Cool thread! But I really don't know where to start, as this brings to my attention how many critters we (and I) actually have!
Unusual pets, okay, but I'll spare you my snails altogether and most of the snakes too. The cat and horses aren't unusual, so they are out. The Greek Turtle then? The fishes are difficult to photograph and common. What about the mice? Those that will later went into the snakes are so cute sometimes, but I also have [IMHO] Germanys prettiest mouse ever - and they enjoy their strictly 'pet status'. I first need to take a presentable shot though.
Now then, I show this small and rather old pic of BlackJack:
Mark, I would also love to play with a Wombat. I don't know what it is, but I always liked them (never saw one in person though).
Ross, I have to say, thats one pretty nice shot of your dragon!
After scanning photos for my daughters 21st I found 2 more unusual animal situations.
Goosey, Goosey, Gander at my workshop door which we raised as pets.
Dougal & Snowy, animals not unusual, just the situation.

I owed all of you some pics of what is IMHO Germanys prettiest mouse.
Apodemus agrarius is living in a big terrarium in my (dim) shop since about 8 years or so. With the last complete clean out of that terrarium, I had a chance to take some photos for this thread.
Best thing next to their 'paint job' is, they don't smell like hell, i.e. as the ordinary House Mouse (Mus musculus) does, with which I feed my sakes.
