  • PEN-F, Crap quality. Third time unlucky.

It's not me, honest. Is it wrong to seek perfection in a piece of technology costing a 'Grand'.

My 'THIRD' defective PEN-F goes back on Monday, being collected by Paecelforce.

I tried to love it, honestly, I did. But to no avail, it goes back.

I'm not sure as to my thoughts on OLY at this moment, one thing for sure, I'm done with PEN-F's.
Shame, cos I loved the EVF.

Is this just a blip?....I've had numerous Oly bodies/lenses and the only QA issue that has arisen is a loose lug on an original E-M5, which was speedily rectified by Oly.
But I do question Oly's future QA, is this the thin edge of the wedge.

Body No.3. Good side and bad side....Body No.2 was exactly the same.

    Body No.1, the worst.

I'd guess and say these things are wrapped by human hands. No you are not wrong to reject such poor quality of finish, I would do exactly the same. If I attempted to ignore the badly fitting leatherette I would only regret it.
It used to be said about cars. If the shut lines were off, it left the owner in doubt about the quality of things you could not see, eg 'under the hood'.

What I can't get my head around is why the LH side is perfect on all three bodies, yet the RH side is defective on all.
Also the quality of the 'leather' seems better on the LH side than the RH side, on all three bodies.

Exactly, if they cannot get the external finish right it doesn't inspire confidence in the precision components inside.

Maybe there is an inherent fault in the pattern of the material, with the way it is cut making it difficult if not impossible for the assemblers to produce a good fit?

Maybe Dave has just been incredibly unlucky.

Just needs a bit of an iron.
Wouldn't bother me if I could negotiate a decent discount.
Anything else would be covered by warranty, odds on its just a bit of carelessness in the factory.
Fuji X-T1 had the covering peel off, Nikon D300 suffered too, sweat from hands apparently.

Most obviously fussier than me, have to say I wouldn't pay full price, but fair reduction would work.

I've had two Pen F cameras. Both were fine. I only sold first because I wanted to switch from chrome to black. Personally, a tiny bit of leatherette creasing wouldn't bother me, but each to his own.

I'm staggered that 'anybody' especially members of this forum would accept such an glaringly obvious 'defect' on a 'One-Thousand-Pound' camera body.

As I have said previously, when No.2 went back......
Would you accept a new car with a crease in the door.....NO, you would definitely not.

All the LH sides have been perfect, all the RH sides c**p, definitely a production and QA problem.
If it can be done on the left why cant it be done on the right?

You seem to be forever changing gear, so I suppose secondhand value is of greater importance to you than me.

And it's not a one thousand pound body - using full-price UK dealers and purchasing it with the 17/1.8, then it's a grand

Imagine buying an overcoat that has a 'minor cosmetic defect', eg a badly tailored seam. You're a member of the 'Overcoats.UK' user forum and you tell the tale. You've had three overcoats from the same company and they're all equally misshapen, but the opinion from fellow members of Overcoats.uk user forum is 'live with it, the coat still functions, it will keep you warm'... What do you do?
Reputably the Pen F has reached the end of the road with no more being made. Perhaps the Pen Fs Dave had the misfortune to purchase were well and truly from the bottom of the barrel. Like the fruit and veg at the supermarket at the end of trading.
