For £800, I would have expected IS. At that point I could probably live with the other compromises. Lots of trolling on dpreview regarding this lens. I’m not sure what people expect of such a long zoom range (though expectations are clearly unrealistic).

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

The 12-100 is significantly bigger and heavier though, (as of course would be a 12-40 & 40-150!)

I see this lens as a stretched 14-150 lens... probably with a similar performance as it is not pretending to be a PRO lens. OK, at present it is nearly twice the price but that should come down in a few months, and at present I carry my 14-150 & Lumix 100-300 as a travel kit.

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

I don't think anyone could have expected a 12-200 lens to be a good performer. However, at £800 it's just crazy money for what's basically kit-lens quality. Maybe it's just a sign of the times...

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

Tamron seem to have done well with this type of lens, such as their 18-270 and their newer 16-300 (both non M43 of course but both available for at least the APS C sensors). If Oly's version is as good or better than these from Tamron then it could suit many people.

Give it a little time and it should come down to a more realistic price, that's when they will start selling properly

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

I guess the target group would be e.g. those wanting a single lens setup capable of capturing a wide range of subjects and not having the highest requirements on IQ. However at that price tag I'd personally rather look at for instance the 12-100 PRO even though it's larger and some 100g heavier.

Ideally, it maybe worthwhile if reduced in price in a kit, but with which body?

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

I guess this lens has been around for a while (I think) I have not seen it before tho'

Sounds like a realistically priced alternative to the 12-200mm...….

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Olympus-M...3ubt:rk:3:pf:0

It is splashproof, and has ZERO coating.

They pretty much confirm what the MTFs say - this isn't a Pro lens - by a long way; especially at the long end. It'll do a turn, but you wouldn't want to be doing much cropping or pushing of the files since the sharpness and micro-contrast just aren't there...
Yes, I reckon this lens imposes a Strong and characteristic look to the resulting images, and it’s unattractive - not very detailed, and they all seem under-exposed.

I tried to link to another example on FB, but the link goes to the guy’s own page... anyway, you’ll have to take my word for it!

This is looking like the first Oly lens flop for years and years.

Re: Oly 12-200 f3.5-6.3

I was disappointed by the IQ of the 14-150 and I don't see how a 12-200 could be any better. The 12-100 on the other hand is a good performer.
