  • Newcastle visit 14th May images

    We had a great time on Saturday in Newcastle. The weather was kind with just a few short showers. I'll not speak for the other members of the group who will maybe want to describe their own experiences, but I want to thank Ulfrick for organising it so efficiently. I have put together a brief selection from my personal take on the day and could have included many more. I wish I could have taken more detail pics but we talked too much!! There are just 19 images on this Picasa link if you are interested:

    Newcastle is a very good location for a photoshoot. Cheers Peter.

    Yes, thanks to Ulfrick, the afternoon went very well. I posted some pics in a reply to the original Events thread http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthre...t=11354&page=6

    Did anyone get to the "late shows"?

        I don't know. Here's probably a better place as it's where you're expecting to find photos.

        Love that fisheye shot!

          Thanks John. I've seen yours now. That 7-14 on the E5 works well doesn't it - particularly the one in Grainger market with the sky showing through - and compared with my fisheye attempt on the E30. I particularly like the one over the city wall with the bins and the China Town gate - more imaginative than my own straight up gate shot. That's where I'd lost you all. You must have been hiding up that alley. Peter

            Here's another little cameo. Apparently Lord Collingwood, Nelson's boss at Trafalgar was born on this spot. I knew he was a Geordie, with his statue out at Tynemouth, but you learn something new every day!

              Hey fellas! (Thanks for the comments but this was organised by Radar, myself, Ken and Catkins mostly )
              Some pictures ;

              First thing as we strolled away from the train station.

              "You looking at my pastry?" Chris 'Catkins' readies himself to ward off 2-year-old food thief. Also Ken and Jim in the Sage-centre Cafe.

              Oh look, Cantral arcade again. Awesome Victorian ceramics.

                  In the interests of conformity, I've shifted my photos to here from the events thread.

                  There's a few more on my Flickr stream.

                    Great building, lots of interesting skylines in this city. Revolution bar below.

                    Tasty tarts in an excellent bakery, Grainger market.

                    A doorway.

                    Look at those tiles! Central Arcade again.

                      And just to put it in context, a couple from the same alleyway, behind the ancient city wall.

                      You'll just have to imagine the exotic smells and sound of dripping fluid from the dozens of aircon units and mysterious pipeways.

                        I LOVE that B&W shot Ulfric, captures the place beautifully. I like the way you use the angles on the architectural shots, very nice

                        And to those who did some organising and I never mentioned - thanks.

                            Hi all, as a newbie I am just experimenting here to find out how you attach an image directly rather than as a thumbnail, just as the rest of you seem to.

                            I hope this does it. Another from Central Arcade though. I need to get my money's worth after slipping this guy some cash for picture rights Doesn't seem to be working for me does it? Cheers Peter

                              Re: Newcastle visit 14th May images

                              While we were sitting in the Cafe of the Sage Jim Stirling lent me his big heavy 50-200 so I took this pic at 200mm through the (tinted, coated, wierd) window on my e-410. (Cropped)

                              This spire is on the other side of the river behind other buildings.
                              I'm reminded why image-stabilisation is a good thing since I didn't have it. Some left-right wobble definitely apparent.
                              Now all Olympus have to do is stick the e-5 sensor in the e-600 body and we're good to go...

                              Alternatively just look how sharp my old 14-54 is at max zoom on the e-410;

                              e-410 is always set for Jpegs and Sharp-minus-2

                              Peter, how about this?

                              Now use the QUOTE button and copy&paste the bit with your strummer in it to find out how the forum likes the [ img ] syntax
