  • It all depends upon how you Spin it

Some bozo polly (not Trump) had a thought bubble that converted a pristine Redgum forest into a swamp
of dead eucalypts and called it Lake Mokoan. It was intended to be a water resource for irrigation but through
a succession of long hot summers that we call a drought, the lake completely dried up until this very wet winter restored it.
It's actually quite beautiful in a macabre sort of way, it attracts lots of birds so now they call it the Mokoan Wetlands Fauna Reserve
and promote it as a State tourist attraction - reminiscent of P.T. Barnham, (1986 movie: Michael Crawford) - It all depends upon how you Spin it!

How dead is this area? Does it have bouts of lush vegetation or flowers?

"Q Mark" - It's actually quite beautiful in a macabre sort of way...

Looks like a set for some zombie film? As there are day's when I really feel like one of the walking dead, it is probably why I picked up on your phrase.

That's the trouble with Mother Nature, she hasn't a clue what she's doing. Then along comes homo sapien and thinks, "I can do this so much better." After it gets screwed up, it is left to the original architect to put things right. Unfortunately, the cycle keeps repeating itself because one part of the problem has yet to realise it is the problem.
It's not what inspires us that is important, it's where the journey takes us.

Like the pic a lot Mark. Seems to have great DOF. What lens?
I was in Vic, March time. It was still pleasantly warm - you must have had a lot of rain.

It's a graveyard of gum trees, sans flowers or lush vegetation, OM.

I must confess the pic was simply taken on auto everything with my Galaxy6 idiot dumbphone (fortunately not one of those that recently burst into flames!) It has rained here for months on end, some respite today but still bitterly cold +14C.

OMG Mark 57F and it's 'bitterly cold' ... Anyway still like the shot. It is rather disturbing though how good iPhones/Pads can take pics. Well not disturbing, rather levelling. My long time hobbyhorse: It's not the Kit: It's not the POST PROCESSING.. It's the gut feeling behind each click.

iso - when our temps drop to 70F we start pulling on foul weather gear.

And yes, I agree that certain cell phones can take good pics within their limitations.
At 80yrs of age I am over buying new kit and have turned my creative juices towards painting.
In my role as both a professional and recreational photographer spanning some fifty years,
I now have a considerable archive of reference images for composing new paintings.
I draw only from my own photographs compiled over a lifetime of visual experience and
may take elements from one or more of those images to create a new composition for painting.

Mark with rain like that you are 3/4 of the way to being in Ireland.

If you do not like our weather wait an hour and it will totally change.

I do have to say we have had the Sun present in the sky for almost two weeks now.

                Hope you are keeping well.

Ed - I only wish I had visited Ireland when I had the chance but went to Scotland instead. That was 1990 and we couldn't do both.
I'm not saying that we didn't enjoy Scotland. It was the extra cost of getting there that influenced the decision.
