Sphaerophoria Hoverflies on Goldenrod

These are very small, yellow and black hoverflies. The abdomen of the males in elongated and parallel sided, with genitalia hooked beneath the tail end. The females (third image) have a more typically-shaped abdomen, narrowing to a pointed tip.

Males are identifiable to species only by examining the genitalia and females are not recognisable beyond the genus.

The stereo is crosseye and uncropped.

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, f9, 10 or 11, hand-held.

The body is willing but the mind is weak.
