To be as clear as I can. I'd never tried it before with the 70-300 only with the 50 macro which it does work well with and was meant for. But sometimes different things work in helpful ways. The 70-300 is useless at AF but seems to work as a sort of telemacro with that particular combination in manual. But manual is not a great thing for me...because of my eyesight. You might find a use for it, at the sort of distances at which it works.
