I can't imagine anyone who's handled it themself would try to use this lens on an E-M1 or indeed any camera without supporting the lens itself. It's pretty well unmanageable and uncontrollable if holding only the body. The only likely source for excessive strain would be if someone attached a tripod to the body instead of the lens. If you want to use it handeld, then you need to adapt your technique so you can use the zoom ring (and - if on MF - the focus ring) with the same hand which is bearing the weight of the lens. It's a beast, but a beautiful beast. :-)
