It seems so - and to thrash this matter out would go far beyond the scope of this thread.

Remember, though, that any camera does not respond in the same way as the eye/brain combination. The camera sensor has physical limitations to the max and min intensities to which it can respond. I use the highlight/shadows indicators to tell me when (and where on the image) I am approaching these limits.

Our brains are far too adaptive to varying light levels to indicate reliably exactly when a silicon sensor will overload
