ooh heck ! What an occasion - the neighbours are coming out to see me off

      Lights check please Nick ???

      and we are OFF

and down the hill to turn left

Mark, I only whizzed down to the Farm Shop for chicken from the butcher, for dinner ... next week ... a proper bicycle ride out over the countryside with proper photos for you

        Re: Landscapes from a Bicycle

Chevvy, I'm utterly chuffed with this well told sequence, not only for its undeniable photographic merit but because of its cold, candid reality ... 10/10, well done Nick!

        1. By law we also must wear a bicycle safety helmet but reflective clothing is optional and most riders do. I have not as yet bought any 'real' bikie clothing although I will on my next trip to Melbourne where there's a wider selection at cheaper prices than is available locally. I agree; it certainly does look like a miserable grey day for a ride which actually makes the set all the more interesting. As for the three layers of Jack Wolfskin thermals, I can't think of anywhere in Oz but Mt Hotham on the bleakest of midwinter days when one could wear such gear without succumbing to heat stroke!

        2. I love the broad grin on your neighbour's face as he sees you off. The recreational vehicles and trestle table suggest that he's quite the handyman and maybe making mods to their interiors.

        3. Now your bike looks like a very capable sturdy machine, I'm sure the pannier bags and basket would not only suffice to bring home a chicken, but could carry enough stuff to see out a siege!

        4. You certainly are visible in that pink reflective vest and oh what a lovely place Winchester is. I guess that's where Winchester Cathedral, immortalised in song is, and one of my old favourites.

Thanks to Nick for taking and sharing these, Chevvy

          Re: Landscapes from a Bicycle

Mark, the vehicles are Nicks white T4 VW Razorback (australian design and make) van and his Supa Moto Home he is refitting I shall post some photos of it ... before, during and after ... it is finished (it is getting very close to finishing (MOT and Spraying dark silver grey bottom and light silver grey sides ... the neighbour was his side of the fence and falling about laffing ... at me dressed up and going out on my bike (BTW this is my Mountain off road bike - I also have a very lightweight, light and fast racing bicycle which had been to lands end and John O'Groats many times cycled (by a friend who sold it to me ... but it is so light I can lift it with one finger Its awesome and I can make 22-26 mph on it, on the road and actually, prefer it to the mountain bike

I have installed TWO "comfy bottom" Gel saddle pads which I move to which ever bike (these are far better for me than "baby diapers" as used Hunting (when in the saddle for the entire day from 10 am to 5pm galloping over the fields and countryside ... chasing fox scents

Your motorhomes are the envy of my daughter Nadia who is presently about to buy one and head off to the Outback. And your racing bike is the envy of myself for I regret not having bought one instead of the Cannondale hybrid I chose. Mind you, it is still a great bike and its aluminium alloy construction makes it much lighter than standard steel, but regardless of how rough the ride there's no way you'll get me into a pair of "baby diapers" ! . It's obvious that eventually I shall just have to buy a racer as a fast long distance road bike, but the next item on my list is a Galaxy Note4 which I'm ready to buy when Optus switches on its local 4G upgrade that is about to happen anytime soon.

Mark you only mock the "Baby Diapers" because you have not been out hunting on horseback for the day and got home with blisters on your bottom cheeks rubbing in the middle it is so VERY painful and you dont know about it until you get off and start to walk your horse "off" ... as they "pop" and you cry in pain

                thanks for the tip, Chevvy.

If ever I go fox hunting on my bicycle I will remember to wear them.

Long distance "seated sports" person use them - the Diaper collects the "moisture/aka sweat" from the channel down your back and stops the sweaty chaffing some manage with "ladies pads" taped to the shorts and tucked in the channel" these days ... depends on the level of effort, sweat and chaffing possible"

Riding horses, stuck in a fixed saddle and position with "back" to saddle is the worst - bareback riding for me now
