Re: Prohibited items

That should help ParcelForce and the others stay in business! That "fragile items" and "delicate items" are in the prohibited list doesn't say much for the way parcels are handled does it?

Re: DXO apparently in trouble: Nik???

It would be very sad if PhotoLab went west, it's an excellent product. However I always thought the DxO One was a non-starter. It appears to have few performance benefits and just makes the phone...

Re: Warwickshire

I can't find anything on the National Rail web site but more Googling suggests there is indeed a service on summer Sundays but the timetable for this year hasn't been published yet. New Northern Rail...

Re: No more parts for E-m5 mk1

Luton Cameras (http://www.lutoncameras.co.uk/) are an Olympus authorised repairer so they certainly should be able to get parts if they are available from Olympus.

Re: Warwickshire

On HS2 there's no argument that we need more rail capacity on the main north-south routes but why does it need to be high speed? Who is going to pay the huge fares that are liklely to be demanded? ...

Re: Warwickshire

I was quite pleasantly surprised a year or two ago to find the coverage in rural Ireland was far better than in the UK. The coverage here in Wensleydale has improved a bit recently, at least on...

Re: Warwickshire

I don't know that part of the county well although I have a friend who's from Long Itchington. I mostly used to haunt the Solihull / Warwick / Henley area. Lovely light in that photo :).

Don't...

Re: Warwickshire

They hived off the nasty bits of the county to the West Midlands in 1974 :). Much of what's left is indeed lovely - I grew up there but much of what I remember as rural is now built up.

Re: No more parts for E-m5 mk1

I thought EU rules specified that products must be supported for a minimum period? Three years is a poor show. I'd better look after mine!

Re: Affinity Photo updates

I'm pretty sure that when an update is available you will be prompted when you open the software. There may also be a "check for update" in the Help menu.

Edit: on firing up Affinity I find there...

Re: About to buy a Pen-F

Thanks for the clear explanation Paul, I had noticed some occasional blurring on my E-M5 with speeds around 1/8 - 1/15 which I never had with my E-620, presumably because that had an optical finder....

Re: Broken Leica DG 8-18mm

A fault not so much in manufacture it seems to me, but in design.

Re: So much for anti-virus software!

For the first time ever one of my three Win10 machines has offered the option to "update and restart" or "update and shut down", although not to "shut down without updating". But it's a start I...

Re: A glorious industrial heritage?, or...

When I was at Lucas the unions ruled the roost and called strikes at the drop of a hat. A lot of Lucas products were pretty dire (though not the jet engine parts, fortunately!) and they simply didn't...

Re: A glorious industrial heritage?, or...

Ha! I was in the GTE division too, at Shaftmoor Lane around 1969-73; I was a student apprentice. I had a Triumph TR6 later on which also had that fuel injection system. It did about 12mpg when I...

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

With the OM-2 you just pressed the shutter release too and you got a properly exposed photo (though not necessarily in focus!). You didn't even need to switch it on - when the mirror flipped up it...

Re: A glorious industrial heritage?, or...

That looks like an Austin A95 or A105 to me? I guess Lucas made the battery and the starter motor too, hence the hole in the bumper for the starting handle ;).

I used to work for Joe Lucas when...

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

Thanks Phil, a very comprehensive review as would be expected from Robin, but I'm looking more for a "how to do it" approach. The live time and live composite modes are interesting but the manual's...

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

I am unimpressed with Busch's book on the E-M5 MkI to be honest, it contains very little that isn't in the manual, and quite a lot of cut-and-paste generic material. On that basis I wouldn't buy...

Re: Recommended Olympus reading?

Anyone know how similar the Pen-F is to the E-M1 mkII? I'm guessing "very" but there are enough differences between my Pen-F and my E-M5 mkI to make it a bit frustrating. If Friedman's book throws...

Thanks Steve; it's a long time ago now but I did point out his error I think.

Re: So much for anti-virus software!

I have a similar experience with my little Lenovo. It can sit for weeks unused and when next used, it can take up to an hour before the disk usage drops below 100% and it's worth actually trying to...
