Re: Interesting article from Thom Hogan about mirrorless in 2019

I know there will be a lot of people who disagree, but I think Hogan is right in identifying that Olympus is facing significant challenges. When I switched from Canon FF (5dii) to m43 in 2013 I...

Re: Flatiron Building in NYC - evolution

Thanks everyone.

@Phill_D - Live comp/PS. Actually, it's an interesting trick. All you need to do in PS is to load images into a stack and create "smart objects", then merge the stack using...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Totally agree. Whilst I'm generally very happy with my Oly gear it has to be said that its limitations become clear at higher ISO. I took some group shots in a dim bar for work and needed ISO 3200...

Flatiron Building in NYC - evolution

The Flatiron Building is quite a stunning piece of architecture but it's not the easiest of building to photograph well IMHO. It's a bit hemmed in so it's hard to get it evenly lit and then the...

Re: Upton Staithe, Norfolk, 4th December 2018

What a stunning set! All excellent, but I agree with Alf & John about cropping the first. A square crop straight from the bottom would do the job - the resulting composition would put the horizon...

Re: Olympus Zuiko mft 17mm f1.8 in black

It's a very nice lens. There is some sample variation though. I've had two. The first was an early copy (made in China) that I bought in 2013 just as I transitioned from Canon to Olympus. I later...

Re: Juxtaposition

Thank you Ian. It was definitely a case of being in the right place and at the right time AND having the camera ready. I was walking back to my hotel from a conference centre and decided to take a...

Re: Panasonic 20mm f1.7

I'm buying it for a friend who bought an E-M10ii a few months ago. To add to the Panasonic 14-45 she already has.

Re: Guess the iso.

The problem with high ISO performance is that the subjective results depend on so many factors:

- The size of the output. Frankly at 1024px long side from an uncropped image I'd be surprised if...

Re: Panasonic 100-400

At 400mm, I'm pretty sure that lens IS will deliver better stabilisation.

Nicely spotted Steve. Not only is it not monochrome, but it's sharp and hasn't got huge amounts of grain! Progress ;)

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Attracting users from other systems may be part of their aim, but I suspect with a non-removable grip they'll be limiting the market for upgraders already in the system - for the simple reason that...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Except you can't take the grip off - which will kill it for anyone who wants lighter kit and doesn't normally swing big lenses.
