A Harvestman via Two Lenses

I found this individual on a wrist-thick rotting branch in my pile of fungus and slime mould dedicated wood. Most species would have jumped off fairly soon afterwards but this one stayed on board,...

Tiny, Hidden Winter Mushrooms

I turned over a chunk of long-dead pear tree branch (wrist-thick) yesterday and found this growing from a bark-free spot. This is one of my rare uses of f16 on the...

Re: Geared Steam Locomotives

[QUOTE=Naughty Nigel;472067]I had heard of them but have never seen one. I don't think they were ever used on main lines in the UK; more in quarries, coal mines and suchlike, and I suspect the gears...

Re: Want to try Macro photography?

Why risk it? Put its cap on and reverse a Kiron 28-70mm (50) which has high quality glass and gives a choice of magnifications.

By the way, not all lenses have aperture control when detached from...

Geared Steam Locomotives

I suppose you steam buffs know all about these. The Shay is particularly impressive.

Re: Ceratiomyxa poroides: A Delicate Rarity

Membership of the site (lots of forums, not just macro) is free if you just want to view and reply (not very much annually) but I have to pay to upload images. If you have images hosted elsewhere you...

Re: Ceratiomyxa poroides: A Delicate Rarity

Thanks, Bill.

By all means forward the list.

I see that Sorby use Flickr. I wonder if they still will, with rumoured changes. (I forget the details but suspect money is involved).

As for...

You would be surprised how many viewers, even in macro forums, don't comment on whether they can may them work or not.

The slight difference in plane of focus of L & R in this...

Ceratiomyxa poroides: A Delicate Rarity

This is a slime mould but of a very individual appearance. We found this rare beauty in 2016, on rotten deciduous wood on the local chalk hills. It was found during a fungus foray by Thames Valley...

Re: Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro v Panasonic 35-100 f2.8

I have done a lot of macro, over many years, with macro supplementary lenses on the front of primes. Either a Raynox (I use the MSN-202) or a Marumi +5 Achromat will give you excellent results with...
