Re: WWT Welney "meet-up" photos

Nice squabble!

I started doing processing of some of my more 'pictorial' images: I know ICM is a bit marmite for some people, so only 3 of those here

I should have time to do some...

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

Many thanks indeed to Paul for arranging this day, which was great fun, as everyone above has said. Yes, it was a bit chilly, but actually a lot better than it might have been because the breeze was...

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

I'm currently undecided between something like Muck Arctic boots and the winter waterproof boot range from Sorel. I've got a wide forefoot but narrow heel, so getting boots that don't crush my toes...

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

Excellent: many thanks for the update. I’ll aim to be there at 9 and will PM you my mobile no.

Great news about the water level - I’ve just worn my wellies while clearing snow off the drive and...

Re: EM10 Mk 2 upgrade

I think Paul has nailed the differences, but also I believe full dual image stabilisation with the 12-100 and 300 will only work with the 5ii (assumaing you have either of those lenses).
There’s...

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

Just (nearly 11am) had a little play stalking blackbirds in the back garden and, with 100% cloud cover and light snow falling, ISO1600 is fine at f4 to give shutter speeds of well over 1/1600 with...

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

Yeah, I was going to bring the 300, 40-150 f2.8 and 1.4tc.

It’s then a tossup whether to bring the 12-35 or 12-100 as well.

I guess it is likely to be a bit borderline dim for m4/3 birding at...

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

It just sort of evolved here...

Here's the latest on the snow (an amber warning): https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings#?region=ee&regionType=area&date=2017-12-10

Worth taking it...

Re: Kestrel

Beautiful things.
The last time I got quite close to one for quite a while as it was hovering was in the car close to Snetterton race track in Norfolk. I'd even got the 300 on an E-M1ii in the boot,...

Re: The Best Mirrorless Cameras for Wildlife and Bird Photography – 2017 Round-up

Sure - it is helpful to keep up with comparisons done by the good reviewers, though, if only because so many people ask what they should spend their money on (I usually start by telling them to stick...

Re: New Canon G1X mkiii

Yes, in the past I tried both the LF1 and the LX100 (both second hand) before settling on the Fuji X70.

Any camera of that size is going to be a set of compromises, and the compact size, tilt...

Re: WWT Welney "photographers hide"

Just wondering what time people were going to arrive, and where we should meet (carpark, visitor centre, hide)?

Shall we exchange mobile numbers?

Polling several weather forecasts suggests...

New Canon G1X mkiii

Some of the best cameras Canon have made are in the hi-end compact area, and this latest iteration of the G1X series is starting to look quite interesting if you want a crop sensor in a...

Re: Olympus 7-14 f2.8

At 7mm and f5.6 the hyperfocal distance on m4/3 is something just over half a meter, so for conventional landscapes even with very close foreground objects you can almost forget about focusing at...

Re: 17mm f1.2

Nice.
Interesting about the CAF issue - maybe it's something to do with the DJI origin? Mine is absolutely fine on the M1ii.

Re: 17mm f1.2

And pricier!

Thanks for the link; for once the comments are interesting and fair.

The issue of comparison with the PL 15 f1.7 is especially pertinent for me since mine is detectably sharper...

Re: The Best Mirrorless Cameras for Wildlife and Bird Photography – 2017 Round-up

Depends on one's criteria for ordering the list: it's actually swings and roundabouts with a variety of capabilities compared with the M1ii: for example, its high-ISO noise seems not the be as good,...

Re: The Best Mirrorless Cameras for Wildlife and Bird Photography – 2017 Round-up

Wonderful if some of the G9 hype turns out to be true.

However, one of Panny's (hyperbolic IMHO) statements is that their work on processing algorithms has increased dynamic range by 25%...
