Re: And another argument for smaller sensor

That was true in the film and darkroom days too. Camera Club members were always more obsessed with the equipment than the images. I remember one visiting FRPS saying in a lecture that his...

Re: OM-3Ti cheapest one ever!? 750

I think I must be lucky with my OM-4 as it doesn't eat batteries. I did have an OM-2SP that did, though. I have heard that some late OM-4s have the same board as the OM-4Ti so don't have the battery...

Re: Playing around - first trip out with my OMD EM-5

I love my E-M5 which I bought new to replace the E-620 which I never really grew to like very much. The 12-50 zoom is an ideal general purpose lens which seldom leaves the camera unless I need...

Re: Camera club speakers

No ads when I looked at it. UBlock-Origin zapped the lot :). I was going to post a link but uBlock also blocked itself :D.

Re: My latest foray into FF mirrorless - and why I'm sticking with m43

I wasn't seeking attention, far from it. However I did take the Pen-F to Claymills pumping station near Burton on Trent a while back and somebody asked me if it was a film camera as it looked so...

Re: My latest foray into FF mirrorless - and why I'm sticking with m43

At the weekend I overheard a Canon user pontificating to his friend that his new phone had 63 megapixels and an ISO of up to 100,000 so could take pictures of black cats in coal mines and was as good...

Re: Vintage Kit

I think ten PP3s, some wire and some sticky tape would be rather simpler than the Cockroft-Walton solution! Back in the 60s my dad had a car radio (Smiths I think, but badged HMV) which used a...

Re: Vintage Kit

A friend has a few old portable valve radios which need a long-obsolete 90v high tension battery. He gets round the problem by connecting ten PP3s in series!

Re: Lancaster University

Interesting architecture but a bit brutalist for me!

Re: Lancaster

Bits of Lancaster I've never seen, although to be fair I haven't been there very often. I find it a rather claustrophobic city and the traffic is diabolical but these shots suggest I should take a...

Some great shots, but where's the Yorkshire Dales?

Re: The Future of Cars

I had a feeling the Rolls engine in the Princess 4-litre R was originally developed for the military vehicles that Austin made during WW2 although Wiki makes no mention of that.

Re: Vintage Kit

Philips have made some very good stuff over the years, I vaguely remember that turntable. A lot of CD players, especially Marantz, use Philips transports. They along with Sony of course developed...

Re: Vintage Kit

Yes, if I remember correctly my Saab had a setting to update the car clock from the RDS data and it defaulted to "off".

Re: Vintage Kit

Agreed about the 401 at least, I've no experience of the 301. The SP25 was advertised as being of high quality (as it was for single records only, no autochanger) but as you rightly say, it was crap....

Re: Vintage Kit

Does the radio display the station name on FM? Can you get traffic info? If so then yes.

Re: Vintage Kit

Not sure I'd class Garrard as "high quality". I saved up my pocket money and bought an SP25 turntable around 1969 when they were perceived as being good quality; however there was considerable play...

Re: Vintage Kit

I'd forgotten about my old alarm clock radio which I got from a local petrol station with Esso Tiger Tokens, probably in the mid-1970s. It's badged Bush but I doubt very much it was made by them,...

Re: Geared Steam Locomotives

When was that photo taken Nigel?

The famous short film "Snowdrift at Bleath Gill" was made near Stainmore Summit in 1955 when we used to have proper winters! A freight train was trapped in snow...

Re: Why does a Frenchman only have one egg for breakfast?

Reminds me of the first time I went to the States. I was having breakfast when the Brit sitting at the next table was asked how he'd like his egg. He presumably wanted it turned over as he thought...

Re: Vintage Kit

Roberts sell badged versions of other brands, as well as making their own. I had an R283 portable AM/FM radio with an LCD display that went flaky after a year or two and was unusable by the time I...

Re: Geared Steam Locomotives

I found the Shay photos more easily than I expected! Originally taken in 1983 on Agfa CT18 film with my OM-2SP, probably with the Zuiko 35-105 lens.

Re: Geared Steam Locomotives

Me too Nigel. The old Kirkby Stephen East (http://www.kirkbystepheneast.co.uk/) station is being restored and houses the Stainmore Railway Company now. The loss of the 200' high Belah Vaduct...
