Re: "That back-to-front lens hood" - Post yours here.

Use 'dry silicone spray'. I spray it onto a tissue and wipe the contact surfaces. It works a treat and avoids the dust from graphite. Also wipe it on to the extending barrel of a zoom lens to avoid...

Re: Anyone have a good way to remove filter spots

Not sure what is happening.

Make sure you click on the little target in the saturation tool ( see arrow in pic below)

Then simply click hold and drag down on the brightest part of the flare...

Re: Anyone have a good way to remove filter spots

Here is my attempt.

http://www.e-group.uk.net/gallery/data/2110/P2150695-2_edit1.jpg

Done in Photoshop Elements 12. I defined four masks: the top half of the bright red flare above the tree,...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

Very nice indeed.

Re: Anyone have a good way to remove filter spots

Frequency separation is your friend for this problem which separates colour and detail into separate layers. Often used in portrait retouching to reduce details in skin, for your problem you want to...

My latest foray into FF mirrorless - and why I'm sticking with m43

This is a copy of a piece I posted over mu43 but I'm not sure how many of you go there so I thought I post it here too in case my ramblings are of interest.

To cut a long story short, I've been...

Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

Kinda like a service for the car... I like the idea to have a expert technician (I hope) looking over the camera for you/me. Nothing lost for certain....*chr

Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

Iíve had them done once a year at the NEC for quite a few times now. Yes, Olympus sensors are amazingly good at throwing off dust, and visible issues on images are rare and usually transient, but it...

Re: Frosty and foggy

I like your second version even better, Phill. The road leads you right into it. A beautifully balanced composition with lovely gradation.

It almost makes me look forward to autumn and winter...

Re: Frosty and foggy

I prefer the second. It seems much more realistic as to what they eye (probably) saw at the time of shooting. As Otto said, the first was a tad too dark and I think it was missing out lots of really...

Re: Frosty and foggy

Personally, I prefer the second version overall. I felt the first one was too dark, although I prefer the crop which excludes the right-hand tree.

E-M1X thoughts and excellent Dave Etchells video

When word first started filtering through about the E-M1X I admit I got a bit distracted by the fixed grip design. I decided some time ago that I, personally, didn't need a battery grip any more. So...

I'm glad you didn't reduce it to B&W. The hint of colour makes it something special.

Re: Venus and Jupiter - or just hot pixels

At about 06:40 am on the 31st should be good. Only concern is the Moon might be so bright it could wash out the planets, though probably not as they are very bright.

So as they say - I wish you...
