Re: Photokina 2019 Cancelled

Well, it looks like Photokina is moving to a spring schedule rather than autumn. The next show will be in 27-30 May 2020. I guess it didn't make sense having a second show only 8 months later, so...

Re: Anti-Virus Programs 'Useless'

Oh well, trying-out Linux isn't appropriate for you :)

For everyone else there are many Linux distros that are suitable for the novice computer user. I haven't had to compile a kernel for years.

Re: Anti-Virus Programs 'Useless'

Long time Debian GNU/Linux user (since 2001). I've never used any anti-virus software and never had any problems. I do however only install software from reputable sources and make sure the packages...

Re: Adapter for OM lenses on OM-D camera

I've bought some stuff from China that was a superb, but I've also bought items that were useless. I can never tell in advance which type they will be and I usually have to wait three weeks to find...

Adapter for OM lenses on OM-D camera

I am wanting an adapter for my old OM lenses for my EM-1. The MF-2 seems to be rare to non-existent and historically was really expensive.

Any recommendations for third-party alternatives?

I...

Re: Wrangle Show

BIF?

Bike In Flight.

Really nice shots. The bikes and riders stand-out nicely against the blue sky. Great bike skills too.

On the other hand, drmarkf has given them the thumbs up! :)

Disclaimer: my camera came with two Olympus original batteries and I have no experience of other makes.

The Olympus batteries are an...

Re: Mountain Hares - Cairngorms

I hope you are able to photograph the hares too.

I worry about the future of the hares when I see sporting estates slaughtering them in huge numbers. Especially galling is where it is done so some...

Re: Broken Leica DG 8-18mm

Fairly shocking approach by Panasonic for what isn't exactly a cheap item (mental note made).

Have you tried contacting some specialist repair companies? A quick Internet search for "digital lens...

Re: Mountain Hares - Cairngorms

Excellent photos.

I have often watched mountain hares but usually without the aid of magnification and have therefore missed the facial "expressions" you have captured. It gives the hares extra...

Re: Do Labradors Have the Ability to Distort Time

Ah, so it should have been "Ahead wag factor 3, Mr. Sulu". Thing is I don't remember anyone having a Labrador on board the Enterprise. There were "two" dogs in the episode "The Enemy Within" which...

Re: Do Labradors Have the Ability to Distort Time

+1

The photo of Endal retrieving money from the cash machine reminds me of a wee trick we taught our Scottie. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this but we use the cue "pick pocket" whereupon...

Re: Pictures: Do you have one that got away?

Doesn't every photographer have dozens of shots that "got away"?

Mine usually involve animals that suddenly appear, or disappear, at unexpected times. However, the one that has always stuck in my...

Re: Steve Jobs? What about Dennis Ritchie?

I was sad to see the announcement too.

Nicely written obituary in The Guardian except I don't think it emphasised enough the impact of the book "The C Programming Language". Not only did it...

Re: EXIF - Subject Distance

Just to clarify the discussion above there seems to be two EXIF fields in use "Focus Distance" which is used in the E-520 (and possibly other E series cameras) which is a proprietary Olympus field...

Re: EXIF - Subject Distance

Really? Are you sure?

I think there would be two possibilities:

1. the EXIF "Focus Distance" is taken from the calculation used to determine the Autofocus or Manual focus point.

OR

2....
