Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

I pointed the 700mm setup towards Jupiter while studying the lunar eclipse on 2018-07-27 just as there was an opening through the clouds. Not sure what settings would have been suitable as I have no...

Re: Manual lenses and focus peaking

I have always used magnification over focus peaking, I think it is more reliable and the feedback about what is actually in focus as close to reality as possible.

Re: Bee-eaters

Thanks for the nice feedback. Took quite some preparations to find the right spots close enough to the colonies. Used portable hide and camo net. And yes it's an admiral.

Re: A Question about Image Stabilization

Ron,

The two first photos look good to me. The third looks a tad OOF and the last one seems it has some motion blur. But again, looking promising.

I went out this morning in search of raptors...

Re: A Question about Image Stabilization

Hi Ron,

You are indeed correct. The IS switch on the lens overrides the menu setting.

I sometimes find myself having accidentally turned it off from time to time. I keep mine on all of the...

Re: Any good tutorials for BIF settings?

He mentions F/9 which on micro four thirds would transform into F/4.5 for same depth of field.

I however disagree on using single AF point. You put too much at risk doing that, not a single frame...

Re: Any good tutorials for BIF settings?

Ron,

What you could add or modify is the following:
Slowest shutter speed when Auto-ISO (Menu E1-->ISO Auto Set-->[Lowest S/S Setting] = 1/1600s (or even shorter depending on subject, distance...

Re: Any good tutorials for BIF settings?

Thanks Ron,

Dave also added some useful hints, we seem to have same opionion except when it comes to the C-AF lock, but it may have to do with what background we usually shoot against. I try to...

Re: Any good tutorials for BIF settings?

Hi Ron,

These are the settings that I use.

C-AF (not C-AF Tracking)
Mechanical shutter to avoid rolling shutter issues
L-FPS cranked up to max (10 fps I think it is)
Do not use H-FPS...
