Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Anyone can make small and light bodies - look at the Sony Apha 7 range, which are full frame and very small. It's the lenses that can't defy physics. Even the APS mirrorless lenses are enormous...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

There are so many things now that a phone can do as a camera but there are also so many things that you can't do with a phone as a camera :D

Basically, phones have replaced all but the most...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

A lot of people like the mono camera and there is some suggestion that the mono camera helps the main camera in AI mode to do the fake DOF effect better (in itself a very impressive feature)....

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

It uses DNG RAW. The files do need a lot of work as there isn't a lot of model-specific optimisation by default.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

In defence of the E-M1x, these two cameras are not aimed at the same buyers. Lens bulk is the big differentiator. If you need to travel light and you need a selection of lenses, the Nikon is a...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Haha, this thread is beginning to wander a touch!

The Toyota GT86 does remind me a lot of my old (1996 model year) Honda Prelude 2.2i VTEC - that was one helluva car :D

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

To a point, I'd agree, but the quality I can get from the Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro is seriously impressive. I'd say it requires more post-processing and of course a 'real' system camera handles...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Not sure if you were reacting to my post but while the sensor size does, as you say, relate to photon capture ability, my point was that the AI multi-frame blending process now being seen in phones...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Not really. The physical size of the sensor is irrelevant as the CPU-intensive work is done on the data once extracted from the sensor.

Huawei phones that use AI for enhanced imaging in this way...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Phones, as already mentioned, are actually doing this right now.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

While an improved sensor would always be welcomed, it's now quite low on my list of priorities.

As I think I mentioned - I visited the exhibition of the 2018 Wildlife Photographer of the Year...

Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro

The low light handheld performance is remarkable.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I know there is a lot of talk about hand-held hires, but does anyone think the current resolution expansion mode actually works hand-held, particularly if there is any movement in the subject?

I...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I would be shocked if Olympus claimed it was aimed at anyone but professionals. And for that market I think it requires the integrated grip for several reasons; battery capacity, handling, even...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Let's not write-it-off too soon. I wasn't impressed by the look of the E-3 but I warmed to it.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

There was a permissions problem - if you were already registered on the FTU forum, like Ross and Barrie, there was no problem.

I think I have fixed this now but for some reason, the top image in...
