Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

Thank you Wornish. I took a screen shot of the RAW Bayer array of my Jupiter image (enlarged), by means of RawTherapee.

It shows what we're up against! Remember that each pixel in the final...

Re: Prohibited items

But "Packaging/Media Packaging" are on the prohibited list, so it seems you cannot wrap it up

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

Having seen your splendid deep-sky photos, I confess I was a bit disappointed with this but it inspired me to have a go!

It was a spur of the moment decision, on seeing Jupiter looking very bright...

Re: Are all the AF rectangles driving you crazy too?

I agree regarding the visibility of the focus points.

I assumed that the original post didn't like to see all the rectangles at once, when adjusting the focus point, whereas I find it quite...

Re: Are all the AF rectangles driving you crazy too?

It seems so - and to thrash this matter out would go far beyond the scope of this thread.

Remember, though, that any camera does not respond in the same way as the eye/brain combination. The...

Re: Are all the AF rectangles driving you crazy too?

I regard all these additional features (AF points, under/over exposure indications, etc.) as 'aids' and, when it comes to the actual composition of the photo then nothing is better than a clean...

Re: AF not as accurate

This is why I think it's harder for the amateur than for the professional photographer. The Pro has a specific assignment to fulfil and can set everything up with that objective in mind.

The...

Re: Are all the AF rectangles driving you crazy too?

I'm with Growltiger on this one. I take macro shots and like to see all my options when choosing the best focus point.

Re: 75-300 FOR bif ?

Ads a matter of interest, what ISO setting are people comfortable with? As one who grew up with Kodachrome ISO25, I don't seem to find 'small' apertures over-restricting.

Re: You know you've arrived...

I once put up some of my natural history photos on the walls of a meeting room at work and was surprised by how many visitors asked questions about them

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

In Elements (however old) you can simply use the Levels control (Enhance Brightness/Contrast Levels...).

On your young-Blackbird image, you'll notice a small gap at the left-hand (LH) end of...

Re: Help - random exposures from E-M1

I note that others have suggested a sticky diaphragm on the 12-60, which could well be the case. The camera body does, however, need to know the aperture of the lens, while other information, such...

Re: Help - random exposures from E-M1

The metering depends on information being transmitted for the lens to the camera via those electrical contacts on the back of the lenses and adapters.

Try giving the connectors a wipe with a...

Re: EM1mk2 HAS THE LENS THREAD CHANGED??

I suspect that, as others have said, this is a tolerancing issue. Try looking closely at your metabones mount and see if there are any signs of a raised burr or a screw that's slightly raised. ...

Re: Pen-F owners, tell me the truth.

I think that, if you're looking to spend some money to expand your photo possibilities, then a new lens will do far more than a new body. It depends on the type of photography you do.

A...

Re: Any one do birds in flight with the EM1MK1

I agree with the previous posts that the E-M1 will do BIF but the MkII is better. I use the Pan/Leica 100-400 lens.

I found this was especially true when using the EE-1 Dot sight. With the E-M1,...

Re: HLD‑9 question

I often wonder how many grips are actually sold, as opposed to bundled with cameras to make a seemingly attractive 'deal'. Both myself and my son fell for such deals but rarely use the grips.

Re: Shutter Count not working

I agree that it is not in the EXIF. It might be worth mentioning that ExifTool by Phil Harvey extracts lots of metadata from ORF files, much of which is 'lost', when the image is processed in a...

Re: Gone all the way

When I was on a nature reserve in New Zealand, I could see the guide was puzzled, so I explained that I was using a silent shutter. He could not understand why I seemed not to be taking any photos :)

Re: Problems with Drive Modes

I think that the problem is that there are so many possible combinations that it would be impossible to list them all!

I used to set one of the front buttons on my E-M1 to switch to MF when...

Re: Shutter Count not working

The only difference I noticed was that 'R' on Page 2 seems to have been replaced with 'MS', which I'm guessing means Mechanical Shutter release count.

I've occasionally had difficulty in accessing...
