Re: The Photography Show - free entry for some

There are only 5 reasons to go to the show and brave all those dullards with DSLRs round their necks:
1. To get a good show deal on some bit(s) of gear you would (hopefully) have had to pay more...

Re: Camera club speakers

Looking back at our club archive, I remember another good wildlife talk from Tom Mason:

Re: My latest foray into FF mirrorless - and why I'm sticking with m43

You’re correct in all rationality, Nigel, but if they did in all areas of life the whole of capitalist society would collapse. Commerce has learned by a process of aggressive natural selection how to...

Re: Camera club speakers

Yes, we had Will last year; really nice guy, and he gave us a thoughtful talk on seeing images ‘in the everyday’.

We’ve got an archive of past speakers on the members area of the club website,...

Cool!
I love the sound of distant thunder they make (probably when 20 miles distant!).

Re: Camera club speakers

I can thoroughly recommend Sarah Kelman’s new talk on peri-Arctic wildlife. A bit of a SuperWoman, she’s a member of our club (Cambridge) and manages to fit in motherhood and part-time work as an...

Re: DIY Kruger Safari - the kit

Thanks so much for this series - all good stuff.

I’d just add that I find the f2.8 aperture of the Pro 40-150 is really useful early and late in the day.

We can’t shoot for as long as recent...

Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

They’ve confirmed they’ll be doing ‘Check and Clean’ again, and some of the talks have been announced, including Tesni Ward and Steve Gosling.

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Had a great few days last week in North Norfolk: birding, eating and drinking with my cousin (who's a recently-acquired E-M1ii owner).

We saw a lot of interest, but I particularly liked this...

Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Yes, I stopped off at Dersingham Bog Reserve the other evening on my way home from north Norfolk, and there were loads of them in the top of the birches. The light was lovely, but I couldn’t get a...

Re: No panning Mode

I’d say the general consensus is that you might as well leave it on IS Auto and don’t worry. Older cameras had trouble making the decision, but the latest Olympus bodies seem very well able to judge...

Re: Rachel

I like this a lot.
Is it in a lift? I keep wondering if I’d crop the white section at the top off, but I think overall it’s better left in.
The expression is wonderful, and asks a lot of questions....

Re: Puddle Jumper

True, but there were plenty of other shots where he shot lots of alternatives before choosing the one winner - eg Magnum ‘Contact Sheets’ which I expect you’ve seen.

I like yours - was he actually...

Re: Updated Olympus lens "roadmap"

Doesn’t look like the 12mm f1.2 fits in there; in fact (if I’m interpreting it correctly) it doesn’t seem to contain anything new at all on the prime front.

So, no update to the 17mm f1.8 (eg...

Re: Wangaratta Camera Club Photo Shoot #01/2019

A nice set.

Homo photographicus of all sexes is a great source of fun images. Normally I’d say anyone who uses their £3500 camera kit with the hood reversed over the lens is automatically marked...

Re: Lakes photo trip with Alf?

Nice idea - many thanks, Alf, and Paul.
I almost certainly couldn’t do March since I’m already away a lot, but depending on the date the autumn might work.

Re: E-M1X thoughts and excellent Dave Etchells video

The technology here is way beyond my competency so I'm not going to express an opinion either way, but I have seen quite a few discussions about the value of back-illuminated sensors with some...

Re: My latest foray into FF mirrorless - and why I'm sticking with m43

Yes, I see both the bodies weigh around 2.25lbs, which is also extremely heavy in comparison with the Z6/7, A9/A7Riii, Canon R etc. It’s around the same as a D850.

I do wonder how many mirrorless...

I guess they’re part of the important processes that break down wood and return it’s nutruients to the soil.
