Re: The 'M'

I frequently use the 'M' setting when using flash. I select a suitable shutter speed (usually around 1/160s) and set the aperture I want, then let the flashgun control the exposure.

Re: Disabling stabilisation off switch

On the other hand, I never use the locking button on the mode switch of my E-M1-ii. Never feel a need for it

Re: Disabling stabilisation off switch

My sympathy - I find the same with the switches on my PanLeica 100-400. I aim to check all three switches (Stab/AF/FocusLimit) because they seem to get moved all too easily. Of course, I forget...

Re: What USB Could Do

I started using a cable for downloading after I bent the pins for the CF card in my camera, when using a card reader. SD card contacts seem to be much more robust but my old ways persist :)

Re: What USB Could Do

I use the USB-C port for downloading image files to my computer. A pet irritation is that, if I forget to switch-off after a transfer, there seems to be no auto-off and I end up with a flat battery....

Re: Advice on lenses

I you want w i d e, try a fisheye!

These lenses can give a totally different 'look' but the image can also be 'rectilinearised' with software. the following example was taken using my Meike...

Re: Advice on lenses

My first Olympus kit contained the 12-50mm, the 40-150mm, and the 45mm f/1.8. This trio of lenses served me very well, until I found a need for something longer. You already have a 70-300mm, so...

Re: My M1.2 has a New Wide Eye

I like fish-eyes a lot. As well as exploiting the fish-eye effect, the results can be 'rectilinearised' in software to give an equivalent (or wider) result to 'conventional wide-angle lenses. I have...

Re: Exposure Latitude

It could be down to the fact that smaller formats are magnified more when viewed. Edges are under less critical scrutiny, when using larger formats, and this could give an illusion of better...

Re: Charger flashing amber. Normal?

My pet hate in so many things. Every young designer seems to want to make his/her mark by doing things differently. It's worst in software, where screen layouts and menus are constantly changing...

Re: Polperro chocolate boxy

My example was, of course, a crop of an already reduced image, so very blurry pixels.

Re: Polperro chocolate boxy

I like high-contrast images, which really suggest sunny days! May I suggest that you try increasing the yellow saturation, which adds more sense of warm sunshine:

I you want a machine mainly for processing photo then the monitor is possibly the most important factor.

Also, remember that you only need to worry about internet security if you use the...

Re: Rumours that Sony has made a 32MP MFT sensor

There's a certain logic to it, since any sensor with a Bayer array combines information from 4 photo-sites, to create new pixels with colour information. The final 'resolution' of the image is a...

Re: Small AF target.

Small AF points were added at a firmware update.

Since there is a fixed number of PD-AF points on the sensor, should I assume that selecting a smaller rectangle in the viewfinder makes no...

Re: Mk III small focus point?

All this raises in my mind the question as to what actually happens when one selects a smaller area rectangle.

As I understand it, there are 121 focus points, which, I assume, are special points...

Re: Mk III small focus point?

I think that's an E-M5 ii in the video so probably not applicable. There's a list of firmware updates at https://cs.olympus-imaging.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/download/software/firm/e1/#omd but no...

Re: Panasonic 100-400 Photo Show saga. Buyers warning.

I'm surprised that Sigma haven't produced any of their tele lenses in MFT mount.

It's a reminder that MFT is still a 'niche' market, despite its great virtues that we all know so well *chr

Re: Panasonic 100-400 Photo Show saga. Buyers warning.

Remember that the 100-400 carries Leica branding. Perhaps there is some technology in there that even Panasonic aren't privy to. Olympus could not risk producing something that is not as good a...

Re: Should I crop?

Be careful, if you try this. It's important that the reflection is darker than the sky otherwise it will look un-natural. Also, I think the dark base helps the composition.

I often make...

Re: Panasonic 100-400 Photo Show saga. Buyers warning.

Since my earlier post, I found time to put the 100-400 lens mount screw under the microscope. It does look as though the screw head has been rubbed, presumable during attachment to the camera. ...
