Re: Going on safari

My preferred safari outfit is EM1+50-200+EC14 for the more distant shots and EM5+40-150 for closer use. I have the 75-300 but it's second best to the others and rarely used.

Re: Going on safari

We didn't fly in any Cessnas, but also, none of our hand luggage was weighed between South Africa and Kasane, Botswana.

I missed my Olympus 50-200mm on this trip. I had the 40-150/PRO but if I am...

BTW the best inspiration and tutorial on lighting African animals is this, by a country mile:

Re: Going on safari

Thank you.

In Madikwe I was helped enormously by us having a game ranger who was also a keen photographer. We got on well, chatted a lot about photography, and he knew well the sort of light I...

Re: Going on safari

I guess a word on batteries may be useful. I took 4 OEM Oly ones and 2 ExPros, plus 2 Oly chargers patched in to a single UK plug by cannibalising two C7 figure-of-8 leads.

Malawi uses UK plug...

Re: Going on safari

Great shots, David!
I love the snippets of natural history as well.

This has reminded me I've finally processed most of my South Africa & Malawi images, so here are some more: the antelope at...

Re: Going on safari

That's certainly a challenge. You can fit quite a lot of MFT gear in the pockets of cargo shorts/trousers, which presumably are not weighed. Another option is a waist pouch.

Re: Going on safari

I leave for Botswana on Wednesday morning to join up with my guests who are already there with my business partner in the photo safaris I do. According to her they didn't weigh the hand luggage at...

Re: I've given in

Another thing I have noticed, better focusing on distant object using C-AF for single shot. I was at our local lake chasing Kingfishers and saw a group of cormorants sitting on a downed tree on an...

Re: Hello from a female owner

I agree about the manual. Have you tried "Mastering the Olympus OM-D E1" by Darrell Young? It covers every possibility and has recommended settings together with the reasons for choosing them. ...

Re: Hello from a female owner

I bought my E-M1 used. Aside from the rear dial problem (which seems a VERY common issue), I've had no real problems and I'm very happy with its performance and IQ.

Re: Going on safari

Prompted by David's helpful article I've done some more research for our trip.

Of the optional things I listed in my post above I'll be taking the second E-M1 body, and for non-game drive use...
