Re: Another stupid question.

It is sensible. It reckons that even if you want to underexpose so much, it should still show (just) what you are looking at. Otherwise there is no point in looking at the viewfinder.

What you...

Re: Daft question

Are you sure you have a mirror?

You are referring to anti-shock mode, with the diamond. Your advice is good.

Re: Another stupid question.

If you set exposure compensation to underexpose, the EVF will get dark. Try it. Isn't that what you really want? This is the default.

You have set it to boost in M mode, which is sensible, but...

Re: Focus point indication during playback

I'm surprised you would use -2. This setting means that when the distance changes, it takes just over a second before the camera changes focus.

The advantage of -2 is that the subject can go...

Which focus points setting are you using?

Re: F1 as AF Home not working after upgrade to 3

You have to set the F1 button to Home, as you have done.

But you also need to tell it where and what Home is:
Cog menu, A2, Set Home.

Re: So, is the AF better with firmware 3?

Yes, that works well.
I see that doing that also changes the focus areas after you turn the dial back to A for example. You would think that there would be a separate setting for video which would...

Re: So, is the AF better with firmware 3?

I think you are right, Cross (5), 3x3 and 5x5 don't exist.
Are you simply selecting the mode then pressing the red button?

Re: So, is the AF better with firmware 3?

Yes, but what about one normal, one small, cross, 3x3, 5x5, All?

Re: So, is the AF better with firmware 3?

I have realised I'm not completely sure how the AF target settings work with video, as there is nothing in the menu other than a choice of C-AF and S-AF. Does it simply use whatever the focus points...

Re: So, is the AF better with firmware 3?

Do you know which focus points you had selected? All of them perhaps? Try reducing it to say 3x3 and try to keep the camera aimed at her.

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

Growltiger forgives you! I'm guessing that I was annoying and deserved it.

No connection with the musical, although I did see it in London when it came out.

The connection is with the origin of...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

Thanks! It was a useful hobby which got me free hardware. It helped my career, as so few people who manage IT really understand the innards. The same applied later with when the internet came along.

Re: So, is the AF better with firmware 3?

But neither post says whether settings were the same. For example was this using S-AF before and C-AF now? In both cases was this with small single focus point or something else? Without a lot more...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

A whole 1.44MB - what a ridiculous waste. Long ago I wrote an entire operating system used by thousands of users, in just 2K (called NAS-SYS). And it had no bugs.

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

Olympus are hopeless at updating all their websites round the world. That is why when you just searched you only found the old 2.1.3 version. The latest version is 2.2. I have not even bothered to go...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

Most likely you have some software blocking things. I read of someone with the same issues and they had at least two lots of anti-virus software running that stopped it.

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

The camera updater is installed as part of the Workspace installation. Workspace won't update one you already had standalone. It won't update Olympus Viewer 3 either.
Just uninstall the old software...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

If you tried it you would see that it installs and runs exactly the same program, but updates it to the latest version, 2.2. You run it from the menu.
You might find having the Workspace program...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

I never suggested using Workspace for post processing. Use it for what it is good at - updating. It takes up only 120 MB of disk space which is insignificant.
I was simply pointing out that people...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

I read that thread and there was no evidence I could see that there was an issue with Mojave. The people with problems were not using Workspace (so not using the up to date updater), people with...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

The answer is simple. You are supposed to run the Olympus Workspace program. It updates all the software including itself and the updater, and it runs the camera updater too.

Why do people want to...

Re: v3 Firmware for mk2 - updates for mk2, m1x and lenses

Using the old updater works for some and not for others. Best to make sure you are using v2.2 of the updater - it shows the version number at bottom right when you run it.
