Re: Zuiko 300mm PRO glitch

Re: Olympus 300mm F4 PRO IS

I'm sorry to hear about the medical condition. It's a shame having to part with a lens like this but someone will get good value at the price.

Re: DIY Kruger safari - admin

Cost can certainly be an issue if you go for one of the upmarket luxury options and I doubt you can go anywhere for less than we manage in the Kruger. You might save a little by using a tent but not...

Re: DIY Kruger safari - admin

You sound more interested in the LR than the safari! Having at various times visited Tsavo (E&W), Amboseli, Nairobi, Mara, Hell's Gate, Naivasha, Nakuru, Baringo and the other Rift Valley lakes I...

Re: DIY Kruger safari - admin

No apology needed! Of my five safaris in Kenya four were self drive in an LR - you need one for the roads there! The important thing is to go; you won't regret it.

Re: DIY Kruger safari pix 5

They seem pretty well habituated to vehicles. Most will get out of the way when they see you coming, but animals always have right of way whatever their size. Animals, notably the Big Five, which...

Re: DIY Kruger safari pix 5

Received wisdom is that if you drive at more than 8kph you risk 'washboarding' the surface. it seems to vary according to what the surface is.

DAY 8

There are endless varieties of weaver and I think this is the Lesser Masked Weaver. It was nesting in reeds close to the bridge over the Sabie river just outside Lower Sabie camp. The...

Re: DIY Kruger safari - admin

In the original post I quoted some of the costs we incurred. I now have the final tally. In addition to the costs initially listed we spent £926.18. This included the 207 litres of petrol already...

I've had some success in the past at Shirley Heights. I'm not sure from your description whether that is where you are or at Fort Berkley. There are some places up the west coast where you can get...

DIY Kruger Safari - the kit

Africa is dusty and the dust penetrates everything. It can also be very wet. Both these issues point towards a pro body with a pro lens. Consumer grade kit will do but you will need to be very...

Re: More from Botswana

Some lovely photos there! We're off next month for a ten day DIY safari in the Kruger. There's been plenty of rain so some of the animals and birds will be difficult to see amongst the vegetation.
