Re: Moon

Mars, I think. Lots of excited people have recently been putting phone pics up on Faecesbook claiming to be the moon and Mars - and the pictures are so poor that they could be anything, complete with...

Re: September Photo Challenge: Landscape

Excellent entries all round, hard to pick favourites as always. Well done to winners - and everybody else! It is clearly a subject that resonates widely with the membership.

Re: Using the P mode?

I've never really thought about using P mode. Aperture priority does the job for sports - generally I want minimum depth of field and fast shutter speed so lens wide open and A mode does the job. And...

Re: Exposure changes not visible in M mode..?

Not sure what you are saying here, Dave - do you mean that the image doesn't get lighter or darker as you change exposure? If this is the case it could be because you have Live View Boost switched...

Re: Architectural Photography Awards 2018

Interesting, thanks Wally.

Odd that the classic one of the railway viaduct is Sussex is on its side. I wonder whether that was just to suit the format or the web page, or an attempt by the photog...

Re: Lens service advice/experience?

Second vote for Luton, they have done a few bits of mine over the years and always been excellent. In my experience they are chatty and helpful on the phone but not so responsive with email.

Can I suggest that if it provokes any...

Re: September Photo Challenge: Landscape

I'm not sure whether this counts as landscape, but the voters can decide :)

It is the church of St. Giles in the "ghost village" of Imber on Salisbury Plain. A desolate spot with a sad story...

Re: Origami Flower Bud

Interesting. If I had stumbled across it in the wild I would have thought it was about to burst open, evening primrose-style. I wonder why it does this.

Re: Swansea Tram Museum

No - ND filters just reduce the intensity of light. Polarising filters, as their name suggests, cut polarised light. Hard to explain in a few words, but in effect polarisation is the plane in which...
