Re: Nik Software

Dave - I believe to get Nik working on the latest Apple operating system & hardware you need to pay for the upgrade (or so my Apple-toting friends tell me, if I understood them correctly).

It all...

Re: F1.2 pro glass

Yes, the 30mm is also a good competitor to the Pan-Leica 25mm f1.4, being also a lot cheaper (although it is certainly a lot bigger as well).

Re: Windows 10 Latest Release Pulled by Microsoft

Looks like it's back on line: mine updated this morning (after I had saved multiple copies of Documents & Pictures both on and off line) and it's running fine with no deletions.

One immediately...

Re: Using the P mode?

Parr's excellent - President of Magnum and a great supporter of young photographers. I heard him speak at that Sony awards: he'd received the Lifetime Award or some such.

Very entertaining and...

Re: The QUEEN VICTORIA BUILDING Sydney

There are some lovely images there.
My only other comment is that it's a shame the first is populated by people in modern dress - it needs a few gents in top hats and ladies in bussles :D

I really like the subtlety here, nothing overblown.

Re: The beginning of Autumn

2 and 3 for me. Excellent.
I think I might have cropped 5% off the bottom of no. 2 if it were mine, but I suspect others would say that little bit of space anchors the image.

Re: More from Photokina

Yes, I agree. Image quality of the 4mm will be crucial so it'll be interesting to see some independent reviews.

I think the 10-25 is really a video lens.

Laowa are great: they had a lovely...

Re: More from Photokina

Yes, the Panny weight demo makes the point, but is very vulnerable to further criticisms, too.

Not only the geeky rathole about 'equivalence' (which I'm not going near), but more significantly...

Re: Lens service advice/experience?

Great, they have a sale.

I used something similar when I had various British sports cars with early electric windows (e.g. 1972 Lotus Elan +2) where the door motors weren't powerful enough to...

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

I can't tell what you mean by that and whether you're being serious or ironic, but since it is likely to result in a return to violence and murder of innocent human beings, who additionally happen to...

Re: Architectural Photography Awards 2018

A nice set of images.
They don't seem to hang them anywhere except at the show in Amsterdam - a shame, since seeing this sort of detailed image in the flesh is always worthwhile.

Re: Lens service advice/experience?

Sorted, many thanks *chr

The hood felt slightly gritty on first moving, and with a bit of gentle turing and sliding a couple of tiny pieces of Okavango grit came out, and it's now fine.

Thanks...

Re: Lens service advice/experience?

Worth a go, thanks.
I'll get the Management's equipment in to (gentle) action tomorrow. If it works and what I assume is grit cleared out, I'm certainly happy to see if the connection problem...

Re: Lens service advice/experience?

Sure will, but since we only landed at Heathrow at 05.30 yesterday it's probably going to take me a little while to get to that stage! Actually I'll post links to my web pages - that saves ages...

Re: Lens service advice/experience?

Good thinking, thanks.
I've used them for lots of hard-to-find spares over the years, but only once for a repair (when I threw my OM-1 down Helvellyn and cracked a viewfinder element  ).

As...

Lens service advice/experience?

Can anyone please offer any advice or experience of current Oly lens servicing?

Re: Nothing new from Olympus at Photokina, but...

Laowa are also going to be producing lenses for the GFX range of medium format, 50Mp, Fujis. On the basis of the performance of my 7.5mm f2 for m4/3 I'd say they were currently rocking.

BTW, the...

Re: BMW drivers won't like this - or maybe they won't care!

Interesting.
I've driven a couple of hire-car Minis, and they just felt like smaller versions of the 3-series (I did find them very joggly on poor roads, though).

Maybe because I've owned 3...

Interesting range of new m4/3 lenses from Laowa. They seem to think there's a future for the format *chr

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Liz Truss would probably like to mark the occasion by giving us all a bit of plastic-wrapped Cheddar.
