Re: Communal Bird Photography Thread

Wheatear. The name is said to come from the traditional name 'White a***', referring to the white rump. They are migrants on passage.

Re: Using the P mode?

Like Bikie John I hadn't even thought about using P Mode. I was led to believe that 'real photographers' don't use it, so I restricted myself to A and S modes. It hasn't worked, though as I am still...

Re: A few birds and an interloper at Calke Abbey today

Nice shots Phill. It looks as if the future might be a little expensive for you. :) The second shot is a male Chaffinch.

Hornets' Nest

This Hornets' nest was in the woods at Strumpshaw Fen. It had been built in a crack in a tree trunk and was a very impressive construction. The Hornets were rather active, so I didn't hang about too...

Re: Hunting Kestrel

Thanks Phill. I don't know exactly how far away she was but it was quite a distance and these are heavy crops. I suppose I could have put the teleconverter on but I didn't fancy removing the lens...

Hunting Kestrel

They were mowing one of the meadows at Carlton Marshes the other day and this female Kestrel was taking advantage of it by hunting for voles and mice disrupted by the activity. She seemed to be...

Re: Lens service advice/experience?

I have just checked and I have no such markings on my lens hood, so it seems that they have indeed made some changes. Interesting.

Re: Lens service advice/experience?

I find the lens hood on mine sometimes sticks if I try to turn it by holding it at the base. I think the fact that I am squeezing in on opposite sides makes it distort slightly and bind. I have more...

Re: Barn Owls in Twilight

I was looking at the exif data on these shots and the origination times didn't seem to be correct. I thought that they were taken later in the evening. I then realised that I had forgotten to reset...

Re: Signs of the times?

Number two made me chuckle. Some nicely observed shots there Walti. I reckon Darwin stopped to use the HSBC cash dispenser .... after having a pee.

Many thanks for all your kind comments. They are much appreciated.

Barn Owls in Twilight

I decided to go to Carlton Marshes this evening, to see if there were any Barn Owls to photograph. Unfortunately I arrived about 30 minutes later than I should have done, so I missed them while they...

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Lovely shots Peter. I didn't see any White Admirals this year. They were not showing on the two days I looked for them in my usual hot spot.

Re: iMac problem

I would imagine that if you have started your Mac from its hard drive you cannot erase that hard drive. You would need to start it up from a separate drive.
