Re: Curious Robin

Thanks Mark. The hole was actually a trench for some concrete edging as we are gravelling part of the front. I did dig up some juicy worms which were appreciated. The robin was quite happy hopping...

Re: Self Solving Rubiks Cube

I like it. I can only solve it to having 3 cubes in the wrong place and I have not wooked out the rotation to swap them around.

Curious Robin

There I was, a-digging this hole
A hole in the ground, so big and sort of round it was
There was I, digging it deep
It was flat at at the bottom and the sides were steep

Re: Is it just me???

Most photographers collect bags; I'm still looking for new ones. I also seem to have a lot of lenses that cover the same range and I can only use one of them at a time.

Re: Advice on lenses

You have a good range of lenses to cover all the well used focal lengths; the only lack being the less well used ultra wides. I would stick with what you have for the moment to see what upsets you...

Re: How best to expose a sunset without a graduated filter?

#2 looks to have all the detail so your processing was spot on. I agree with others that, without any filters to hand, bracket and merge in post is the way to go.

Re: Fancy taking photos with a 90 year old camera

Folded up that is going to take less space than a camera+lens.

Re: Fancy taking photos with a 90 year old camera

Plenty of depths of field here. It would not appeal to FF fanboys.

I have not been to Manchester so, if I may, I'll continue to look at your photos of these arches.

Re: Hurst Castle moments

The long shot of the place (#1) is not that inspiring but it looks like the close up action (#2,#3, #4) more than makes up for it (especially with the ongoing commentry). Nice lighthouse/needles shot.

Re: April 2019 Challenge: Old Technology

Congratulations to Toby (Snerkler) on a very interesting shot. I'm ecstatic at getting a 3rd but it will probably go all wrong again in the next competition.

Re: Playing with PRO capture...

It is difficult, Walti. I don't have pro capture but I have tried with burst mode and had a similar lack of success. These things just fly too fast to freeze the action and my panning skills are...

Re: Butterflies with 12-200 and 40-150 (+1.4 tc) lenses

Question:

Reply:

I was not thinking particularly of birding at those distances but distant landscapes (hills/mountains/long valleys) can look a little soft at 300mm with the 75-300mm. Thank you...

Re: Butterflies with 12-200 and 40-150 (+1.4 tc) lenses

To my mind your bird shot highlights the lens detail far better than the butterfly shots and is seriously impressive. At close quarters the 75-300mm is (possibly) equally impresive but falls short...
