Re: Sony RX100

I was kindly given a Mk 1 a few years ago by someone on this forum because it was repeatedly switching itself on spontaneously. A search on the net showed several forums where users had reported the...

Re: Astro photo Lens decision.

Before we married, my wife did exactly that when going to Ghana for VSO. She wore both her coats with her shoes in a pocket, and wellington boots on her feet!

Re: Pop-up tent as portable hide

I remember reading that wildlife are not bothered by camouflage. It can be any colour and the only use for the camouflage is to deceive humans.

Re: Hurst Castle moments

When I was there I asked if the 38 ton muzzle loading guns had ever been fired in anger. When the guide said "No" I replied "There's still time yet!".

Re: Mass emergence of rare butterflies.

I can't see where you mentioned the name of the butterfly (Duke of Burgandy Fritillary).

You probably omitted it in your excitement! ;)

No. 2 is absolutely perfect.

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

I think that it's been parasitised. The parasite has matured and left the ladybird's body and pupated nearby. The ladybird has died.

Re: Cheer up

We get up to four badgers visiting the garden, and we leave dried dog food and peanuts out for them. I've a cheap night vision camera to capture their antics. Here's one of the recent clips:

Re: Butterflies with 12-200 and 40-150 (+1.4 tc) lenses

No. 2 for me also. The focus is spot on, including the antenna of this rare butterfly.

Re: The Sutton Hoo ship burial

AIRC the grave was missed by robbers because the end of the barrow had been ploughed away, making the actual grave off-centre.

Re: Refused to refund?

I'd also never buy a Sony product, because of their refusal to recognise a fault on one of their camera models!

Re: Computer advise.

ISTRC that using a SSD for virtual memory (swap space) is not a good idea, as SSDs wear out with lots of R/W cycles. SSDs are good for quick start-up of the O.S. and programs. As I stated earlier, if...

Re: Computer advise.

I think that the advice about more RAM is good, so the whole image can be held in RAM and the computer doesn't need to use virtual/swap memory. I'd be thinking in terms of 16Gig.
