Re: total lunar eclipse on Sunday / Monday morning

It was cloudy here south east of Oxford for the eclipse, but I grabbed the rising wolf supermoon at dusk near Stokenchurch in the Chilterns beforehand. The crows were going crazy. E-M1 with MkI...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Hardly any mention of the sensor in the full specs, which is worrying. The official launch is going to be a bit of a damp squib after such detailed leaks! Definitely not for me as I knew early on,...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Thanks, been trying to hold off, but may well plump soon. I was tempted to wait for the next models, but suspect some of them will have stupid hole punch screen cutouts for the front camera. At least...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Very impressive Ian. I've been very tempted by both the Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro, and a friend takes great shots with his P20 Pro. I'd prefer the ultrawide on the Mate 20 Pro, but hate curved...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

It does look like a pop-up flash. The slow reveal has been rather spoilt by the highly detailed leaks!

Re: Interesting article from Thom Hogan about mirrorless in 2019

Thanks Paul, very interesting read. Several companies seem to have a gap between their messaging, and what they are delivering. At present, Oly's gap is more of a gulf. I hope they address this...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Of course our sensors are huge compared to smartphones so would require massive processing power to do comparable AI stuff. Readout speed wouldn't be as fast either.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Absolutely Ian, camera makers are getting left for dead with smart AI like this. Existing M4/3 sensors would be far better adding AI like this, not to mention phone-like UIs! I'm nearly at the point...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

That would be nice. I'd love an E-M1.1 sized body with a next generation sensor focusing on low noise at higher ISOs and hand held high-res for landscape etc. I understand why Oly are doing the...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I was exaggerating slightly, but getting frustrated that they seem to have put their recent energy into steadily more niche and expensive products. To me, this looks more like a 100th anniversary...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I hope the few who need this DSLR-sized beast enjoy it. I'm far more interested in other, much smaller bodies, hopefully with more than incremental improvements.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I said that about the grip detail on the E-M1.1, and that turned out to be real

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Absolutely, they seem to be getting more and more niche. Time they did more mainstream updates that play to the system strengths to differentiate them from the FF me too crowd. With a big leap in...

Re: 12-40

Tempting Paul, I've always fancied trying one of these, but my Pana 12-35 f2.8 and 35-100 f2.8 have been a brilliant pairing for me, never having been a prime fan. I think I would miss the smaller...

Re: Leonid meteor shower starts tonight

I had a look outside for a few minutes at 2.30, and looked out the window around 5.00, but didn't see one. Maybe the Leonids are not so prolific. They always seem less than advertised, but I guess...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

While I'd love handheld hi-res for landscape, the last thing I want is a built in grip. The focus again seems to be on speed. I want an E-M1.1 sized body that does handheld hi-res, and has a real...

Olympus OM-2n and lenses

David's wanted thread reminded me I should offer my brother's black Olympus OM-2n film camera. The paint is fairly sound and the shutter seems fine, and the meter runs OK off my X700 batteries (357)...

David, good luck in your search! I'll pop mine in another thread just in case.

Re: Olympus OM 1n body

David, I've got my brother's black OM2n if that might be of interest? It needs a good clean, but the paint is sound. The shutter seems fine, and the meter runs OK off my X700 batteries (357) which I...

Re: Police stop & ID in U.K. shopping centres?

Indeed Mark, I thought I was a marked man after that, but they claim they don't have facial recognition. It's only a matter of time though I'm sure.

Re: Police stop & ID in U.K. shopping centres?

I was stopped in February at the newly reopened Westgate shopping centre in Oxford by a security guard. It is private property. I thought it was because I looked like I was photographing the...
