Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

Not an option. That was all history when I got there, with the dragon long gone.

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

I'm not sure if anyone has answered that but it is a male Small White.

The female Brimstone is uniformly pale yellow with the undersides of the hind wings a bit more greenish. The forewings have...

Re: Communal flowers, trees, plants and fungi thread

This is a common issue.

I have found a way with cheap and readily available material which will at least give anyone the crosseye stereo experience, if not very practical.

Obtain two of the...

Orthetrum cancellatum Black-Tailed Skimmer Mating

I shot these on my first visit to Decoy Heath Reserve on 28 May. They chose this cluttered, stoney beach to land on. The males, in articular ware...

Re: Ectemnius Cephalotes

Re: Ectemnius Cephalotes

Lovely images but the lack of a yellow stripe across the back of the thorax and the striping along the legs, makes me doubt that it is cephalotes. Some of the species are very difficult to separate....

Two Heathland Orchids

These were at Decoy Heath Reserve on 28 May. I have various orchid books but I give up on species identification.

Emperor Dragonfly Laying Eggs

This is a combination of visits on two occasions to two well-separated ponds at Decoy Heath reserve. In each case there was just the one female. They lay their eggs...

Alder Leaf Beetle Agelastica alni, a Rare Find

I encountered this beetle twice (5 & 11 July) on regenerating foliage of an Alder tree at decoy Heath Nature Reserve, in Berkshire. There were at least 5, no more than 6 or 7. It was not in my quite...

I was waiting for someone to say that. That is precisely my experience with insects. They respond to hand movements e.g. to focus via the focus ring.

Any upward movement is unnatural and is likely...

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

I will soon (the next few days) be uploading stereos of mating Ruddy darters. Don't miss them.

I think it might benefit a lot of members if you would write an account of your method and equipment...
