It's a mazegill, possibly Oak Mazegill (Daedalea quercina (L.): Fr.) which is know to infect Eucalyptus. It looks past its best and seems to have some kind of mould on it.

No. Your brain doesn't like what you are trying to do. Try to be as relaxed and nonchalant as you can and look into the images not at the screen surface. Some images work better for slightly further...

I have lots of specific guides and find a mixture of ones with photos and ones with coloured drawings works well, especially for mushrooms, where I often consult two or three books, plus websites,...

I am trying to take more shots without the TC behind the lens. That gives a perspective I prefer. I can't always do that with active subjects.
