Re: Show us your first cameras

That's very kind thanks Paul, and thanks for all the faves on Flickr! Will have a proper look at yours soon. That building shot was with the lovely MD 17mm f4. I used to be a graphic designer, so...

Re: Show us your first cameras

I gave my SRT101 to a friend when I got the X-700, but he had it nicked as he tends to do! My Dad and I had the X-700 and a fairly extensive system (well he did), and both had the MD 17mm f4, a...

Re: Camera Industry Facts 2010 - 2018

Interesting, but it's nonsense that such figures don't include phones, presumably as they are not traditional camera manufacturers. Phones have obviously nearly completely replaced low end compacts,...

Re: E-M1X thoughts and excellent Dave Etchells video

Interesting Ian, but we can be sure they will be developed for phones first, as that is a far bigger market, and has a greater need size-wise. Let's hope it happens soon, although every few months,...

Re: Show us your first cameras

Yes, another factor making life harder for camera manufacturers. Along with phones killing the lower end market, digital has reached a good enough stage where the imperative to upgrade is largely GAS...

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

Can we see the Aurora version of Bruges please Paul? The sky looks a little too dark to me on the LR version. Lovely though.

Re: Aurora HDR 2018 Free Download

Sounds OK if you are happy staying with the 2018 version. The 2019 version is 92, and obviously updated each year! I find LR does a good job for me, not providing weird presets you have to battle...

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

Just looked at my ORF icons in Windows Explorer, and they are assigned to FastStone image viewer, as I have JPGs and ORFs set to open through that. It opens the Raws with the built-in JPG preview. So...

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

That looks a bit ancient, it doesn't support any 64bit versions. I just grabbed an E-M1.2 Raw file, and that shows thumbs on my W10 64bit, which I think is supported natively. I use FastStone as my...

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

I see E-M1.1 Raw thumbs OK in Windows Explorer on W10 Paul. Don't more recent models work? I used to use FastPictureViewer codecs, but haven't bothered recently.

Re: E-M1X thoughts and excellent Dave Etchells video

Hopeless for me. I liked my E-M5 with the landscape grip, and then the E-M1.1 became my perfect form factor, virtually never using the free grip. The E-M1.2 was bigger than I like, and I haven't felt...

Re: Show us your first cameras

Fun idea Paul. My Dad and Gramp were keen photographers (Gramp built his own lovely darkroom), so I started young with one of these.

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

The reported focus distance has always been notoriously approximate since the 4/3 days, and I doubt it has changed. PDAF is probably worse though, as it tells the lens to move a certain amount,...

Re: New silver E-M1 Mark II camera

Really done on the cheap, just a paint job with the dials all still black. I much prefer the black body.

Re: E-M1X preview sessions

Thanks for the detailed shell photos Andy. I'm guessing the GPS receiver lives under the 'pop up flash' cover. Did you tap that? I guess it might be plastic?

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

It is for me. I was referring to LR Classic CC, not LR CC, which is the cloud version that I suspect will eventually replace Classic. The power of the graduated and radial filters with the new range...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

From the excellent Imaging Resource article, HHHR section:
"The solution isn't to hold the image stationary on the camera's sensor for that long, but rather to take advantage of the natural camera...

Re: Olympus Workspace - Replacement for OV3

Thanks for the warning, I haven't used OV3 for months, but grabbed the latest updates before they kill it. I won't bother trying the new one till I hear some positive feedback on it! LR Classic CC is...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Sadly, I think the hand-held hi-res and live ND need the power of the second processor, big batteries, and big body with heat pipe to dissipate the heat. At the moment anyway.

At least the E-M1X...

Re: Photography Show 2019 - Can we manage to meet up this year

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

Phones still mostly have only modest optical zooms, so no great need for that type of tracking yet. The P30 Pro is rumoured to have quite a long optical zoom in periscope form. It will be interesting...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I think it's a lot cleverer than that now. It looks at what you are shooting to decide what the subject matter and lighting is, and applies appropriate automatic settings. Obviously it won't get it...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I can't believe this is how the AI works in say the top end Huawei phones, needing vast databases of every kind of subject. I assumed it was boiled down to some compact algorithms, similar to the way...

Re: total lunar eclipse on Sunday / Monday morning

Thanks all. Luckily I'd decided to take my old 50-200, which is sharp at f5.6 at 200mm. The rising supermoon took me by surprise a bit as I was looking at the sunset then looked round. Juggling ISO...

Re: total lunar eclipse on Sunday / Monday morning

It was cloudy here south east of Oxford for the eclipse, but I grabbed the rising wolf supermoon at dusk near Stokenchurch in the Chilterns beforehand. The crows were going crazy. E-M1 with MkI...
