Re: Pop Up Scam?

Not necessarily hacked, but there are plenty of scammers who purport to represent legitimate organisations who use such tactics to ask for your card details, etc.

I certainly wouldn't be paying...

Re: Strange 'phone calls!

Please be warned: there are hundreds of 'apps', many of them free, that allow mobile callers to display whichever Caller ID they want. This is now a very common problem. If you try to redial the...

Re: Scottish High Court Appeal

The English criminal justice system undoubtedly leaves a lot to be desired from all perspectives, but as a law abiding and tax paying citizen I expect to be kept safe from violent criminals, and I...

Re: Scottish High Court Appeal

I suppose this all comes back to making prison work.

In an ideal world every criminal would have an 'Ephiphany moment' whilst in jail and would come out a reformed character. Some do but most...

Re: Scottish High Court Appeal

Unfortunately it seems that for many years now our justice system has been driven more by the availability of prison places than the risks to society of the criminals in question.

(There is also...

Re: W10 peek-a-boo for Junes update

Yes, that is one way of doing it, and probably best and safest way.

Compressing wouldn't help.

If you were going to clone everything back to the 500 GB drive it wouldn't really matter. You...

Re: W10 peek-a-boo for Junes update

In simple terms you can only shrink the volume down to the outermost segments. In the old days you would run Defrag to compact the data at the bottom end but you cannot do that with an SSD....

Re: W10 peek-a-boo for Junes update

I have been using SSD's for four or five years and haven't worn one out, yet! *yes

You can download an app for your old drive which should tell you the percentage of life remaining and will update...

Re: W10 peek-a-boo for Junes update

Pleased to have been of help. :)

Make sure that the SSD interface is running at full speed. There are free apps you can use to check read and write speed which with the acceleration should be...

Re: W10 peek-a-boo for Junes update

Hi Keith,
I am about to go out but will answer your questions later in more detail. Neither is difficult to do. :)

Very quickly though, if you go to Explorer, right click on My Documents and go...

Re: eBay here I come...

That would worry me too.

I have a number of Olympus prime lenses that were always prone to fungi so I would be concerned that keeping a badly fungused lens in close proximity is just asking for...

Re: W10 peek-a-boo for Junes update

That always happens when you clone a drive because what you have is a clone of your original 500 GB drive!

I theory you should be able to simply extend your 50 GB partition to the full size of...

Re: W10 peek-a-boo for Junes update

That isn't quite correct. When you register the OS with Microsoft they record the unique serial number from your motherboard as a unique identifier and keep that on their database. That is why you...

Re: W10 peek-a-boo for Junes update

If you do need to buy a licence there are much cheaper places to buy one than Microsoft. Ebuyer, one of my regular suppliers has it for 129 but there are plenty of other legitimate sources.

What a fine machine. I'm sure it would be a real joy to use.

Regarding Mark's comment about the Fresnel screen, there is a good chance that the focusing screen can be changed for another more to...

Re: Gmail Tracks Your Purchase History

There are two ways of looking at it. If your data is useful to the hosting company they will keep it. If it has no value they will delete it.

If you stop paying for iCloud or MS OneDrive you are...

Re: My M1.2 has a New Wide Eye

Very impressive Mark. The fisheye provides a totally different perspective.

Out of interest, was this taken on an XPT train? It looks very similar to our Mk 3 carriages.

Re: Do we actually need HS2?

Hmmm. Wasn't HS2 announced by the outgoing Labour government in 2009-2010?

Dr Beeching was not responsible for the rail cuts. Beeching was Ernest Marples 'fall guy', hired to do Marples dirty...

Re: Mamiya Question

An RB67! That is a beast of a camera, and was the first of Mamiya's 'rotating back' machines - hence RB67.

I am fairly sure the RB is an all mechanical camera. There was a metering prism for...
