Re: Oly 40-150mm Pro

The 40-150 is my favourite lens and covers pretty much everything I need, if I could have only one lens it would be this (main usage of travel and landscape).

I also have the 100-400 and it is...

Re: More UWA photos

Tree for me too, it's the only one where UWA seems appropriate (and maybe the sphinx).

I think the others would have been better without UWA, for example the rose and cottage could have been...

Re: Hunting Barn Owl

#1 for me, fab! #2 looks very archangel too.

Shame about the others being OOF, have you played with the loose-tight setting at all?

Re: Birds and the Bees or rather Flowers and the Bees

One of the perpetual challenges of macro photography is getting enough DoF to get enough of the subject in focus. 'Bokeh' for the sake of bokeh is not really a good thing.

You have succeeded in...

Re: First thoughts 12-100 Pro

Those aliens are called Cardoons :)

This is my concern about the lens, that it is just a bit big, but then a lot of the time I have the 40-150 pro attached without much concern...

Re: E-M1ii pixel peeking

Nice work Paul, you have a knack of making quite technical shots or thought processes sound very easy.

Re: Should I upgrade to E_M1 Mk II?

It's a yes from me.

The AF is miles better which may be enough of a reason anyway and everything else is just a bit better and those combine to make the camera a much nicer tool. And it's the...

Re: Panasonic 100-400

Here's a couple of a Dunnock from the allotment today, EM1ii and PL100-400 (edit: looks like the forum software is playing silly sods - look on Flickr for full sharpness).

This is full frame...

Re: Panasonic 100-400

I think if you shot side by side and looked at 100% you would find the Oly has better micro-contrast and therefore better apparent sharpness, I'm pretty confident of this.

However, for me m43 is...

Re: Panasonic 100-400

Thanks :)

The 40-150 is by far my favourite lens as it covers my favourite landscape range and is also just generally useful as I tend to see in telephoto (always looking a 'what's over there'),...

Re: OI.SHARE AND EM1 mk2 files

If you "upgrade" to photos you will lose iPhotos and will find it difficult to revert. Just try with iPhotos as they should use the same converters.

Re: OI.SHARE AND EM1 mk2 files

Photos is just the new iPhotos so maybe you are using it already?

It does read EM1ii files, I've just checked :)

Re: OI.SHARE AND EM1 mk2 files

Well, I would just use Lightroom but I guess you don't have that.

Assuming you don't do major edits and that your hardware will support it I would update your OS to at least Yosemite and use the...

Re: OI.SHARE AND EM1 mk2 files

Affinity will read your raws but it isn't a file management system so you will need to edit and save as jpg every shot.

Or, you could just use Photos (which will read the files) with some of the...

Re: Battery charging 'in the field'

I have that charger and those batteries, the charger is great and the batteries are ok but not great, fine for an emergency backup but if you are intending to regularly use more than one battery...

Re: Dummy guide to understanding image flaws?

As a generalisation I would say nine times out of ten it is due to poor light.

Poor light leads to flat images, high ISO, slow shutter speed, wide apertures and missed focus.

Photography is...

Re: Mottisfont Moments

I love Mottisfont, it's just a short 5 mile cycle - we often pop there with a picnic and bottle of wine just to sit around the grounds and relax. They also sell amazing charcoal.

Nice to see some...

Re: Olympus 300mm F4 Pro Lens

I think somewhere between the two would be nice, I like the colour and contrast adjustments but do feel it's over-sharpened.

With my m43 cameras I find they need very little sharpening and...

Re: Taking another bite from the Sony Apple

Yep, the links are borked somehow but you can amend the link yourself (by changing the 1 to a 2) and in doing so you can see clearly that the second image is much cleaner and with more detail,...

Re: What's the BEST SD Card

The write speed of the EM1 and EM10 seems to top out at 40mb/s so anything faster than that seems a waste.

I used these which are much quicker than my Sandisk 30 and 45mb/s cards I have (they're...

Re: Glen Luibeg Mono

Mono for me too - you can just TELL the sky is a rich blue in the B&W which is the main benefit of the colour version.

Re: Some Oceanic Arty Pop!

Middle one for me - works really well as the original looks quite flat.

Would be interesting to see it in B&W too :)
