Re: To flash or not

Thanks for this further input. :tup

I think one of the issues with the flash shots are the harsh shadows, which are a mixed blessing - small details such as the striae on the 'shroom cap are...

Re: To flash or not

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Normally for fungi, where I can use a longish exposure because they don't blow around in the wind (mostly), I use ambient light, but I had a bit of a play around...

To flash or not

This is all highly subjective, but here are two shots of a fungus taken both in dull ambient light and with flash. The firswt pair are 7-14mm wide angle with just a light bit of flash so that the BG...

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Made a monthly donation. I was wondering about a percentage of stuff I buy and sell on here. Every little helps (or has that already been suggested)

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

How does that affect you, other than annoying you? If it were true, of course, which I doubt. Sounds like a Telegraph/Mail "interpretation".

Still nobody's ever managed to explain to me how being...

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Emotive language. Suffered??? In what way have YOU suffered?

I'm 71 in the NE of England and I can't see anything that the EU has done that's made my life worse, quite to the contrary. However...

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Indeed. You should see the Wildflower group when Himalayan Balsam is coming into flower.

However for some of the forums on here it would be perfect, not so for others.

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

I think FB is killing forums, it certainly killed off any discussion on our climbing club forums, which we have now gotten rid of. The fact is, FB groups are very functional. And pervasive, this last...

Re: BT and public WiFi

I agree that BT is a reliable service, we've never had an outage.

Except for an appalling series of blunders they made whilst moving house, compounded by totally useless service reps - right up...

Re: BT and public WiFi

Yes, I'm aware of all that, it was one of the reasons I went with BT. However, for my usage of mobile internet and the improved 4G coverage up north, I'm having a rethink. It's a tough one though,...

Re: BT and public WiFi

The BT thing is interesting. As a BT customer I can use any of a giant network of BT hotspots, including some blokes router as John said, so long as I log in with my BT broadband userid/password. The...

Re: BT and public WiFi

Yes. Of course. That doesn't force the phone to connect to it, it connects to any available network apparently at random. You can't actually use that network unless you have the credentials,...

Re: BT and public WiFi

"BT WiFi with Fon" is a public WiFi service that BT customers can use for nothing (https://www.btwifi.com/help/about-bt-fon.jsp). It can be somebody's private router where they've not opted out of...

Re: Wild About Britain site down again!

Yeah, but the word on the street is that the original WAB site is dangerous, admittedly from ex mods who may have an axe to grind. But I agree, it had excellent functionality. I now get the same...

Re: Wild About Britain site down again!

Is that the original Wild About Britain site?

If so, it is very dodgy, it has been hacked. There is a new one somewhere, it was mentioned on the WAB facebook group.

If not, I'll shut up :)

Re: No more parts for E-m5 mk1

For you that time, a great deal. But that means that you must use Oly repair, be they cheaper or dearer than a 3rd party authorised repairer. Still, nice to know if I need a new part fort my ancient...

Re: No more parts for E-m5 mk1

So Olympus stopped supplying parts to authorised repair shops about 2 years after they stopped selling the camera. That is dreadful. Presumably it's just Oly UK. Makes me think whether Oly kit is...

Re: No more parts for E-m5 mk1

Interesting, thanks for that *chr. Trouble is that for an undiagnosed problem you can't get an accurate quote so you're taking pot luck. What's the Oly repair guarantee period these days?

Re: No more parts for E-m5 mk1

If that's true and the Luton chap understood the missive from Oly correctly, it would suggest that the parts are no longer made and Oly are keeping the remaining stock to themselves, presumably to...

Re: No more parts for E-m5 mk1

I'll be giving Luton a ring tomorrow, I'll try and find out Oly's wording. I seem to recall the guys said something along the line of "No longer supply parts for"

Angry No more parts for E-m5 mk1

My mode dial has stopped working on my trusty old E-M5. I'd sent it in to the Luton Cameras 9 months ago for a faulty mode dial, and they gave it a clean & things were fine, then yesterday it stuck...

Re: Dust!!!!

I've decided to get a man in to do it.

Reasons:
1. It's pollen what's the problem, and that happens most when I'm out botanising, and in future I'm taking 2 bodies for that since I only ever...
