Re: EM1 mk2 sd cards

I remember when a 1GB CF card cost around 300GBP . Probably best to wait a while, unless you are experiencing real frustration, since prices will probably fall as these high speeds become...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

That shot of the ISS is really remarkable - I love the way you've composed the sequence and caught the trail right across the centre. Perfect timing and a very nice shot of the moon as well. ...

Re: Film / Slide Copying Rig

I used a length of black drainpipe tubing, attached to the filter ring of my macro lens to make a simple slide copier. I designed it originally for my Nikon D70 but it works quite well with the 60mm...

Re: Camera / Lens range as in distance...

Not just wildlife - the atmosphere can play havoc with distant tele-shots as well, especially in hot weather, when heat-haze blurs everything.

Re: Camera / Lens range as in distance...

I agree that the first shot looks 'over-cropped' but I think you could find a 'sweet spot' between it and the full frame.

Re: Robin Wong review of 17mm f1.2

Re: Robin Wong review of 17mm f1.2

I'm a bit puzzled by the statement in this review that "Neither myself nor MT are associated with Olympus in any way...." On his own blog (assuming it is the same Robin Wong) he states "I am an...

Re: Sensor Cleaning

When I used Nikon, I needed to clean the sensors quite often - every couple of months or so - but, after changing to Olympus, I have only had to use a blower brush very occasionally and never...

Re: Sensor Cleaning

I used to clean sensors myself, with wipes and 'eclipse' fluid. I have read, however, that it is unwise to do this on sensors with image stabilisation, because it is possible to damage the...

Re: Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

Love the startrails, especially. Great use of the live composite mode, which I have yet to try out.

Re: The Best Mirrorless Cameras for Wildlife and Bird Photography 2017 Round-up

Since wildlife and bird photography are my main interests, I found this an interesting review, which concurs with my own impressions of the E-M1 Mk2. A couple of things disappoint me about the way...

Communal Night-Sky Photography Thread

I'm still new to this forum, so I hope it doesn't seem presumptuous to start a new thread. I suspect that I am not alone in having been encouraged to have a go at night-sky photography by the recent...

Re: Stacking Query

There are different types of stacking!

In astro-photography, stacking is used both to reduce noise and to reduce the effects of atmospheric turbulence.

Noise is reduced because, being random,...

Re: New Member - new to Olympus

Same course as myself - Nikon got too heavy and I needed a lighter travel kit that was still weather resistant. I worked up slowly to the Mk.2 via the original E-M5 then an E-M1 but wouldn't go back...
