Re: Lens recommendation

Yes I agree. The Sigma 150 is great for macro and also a superb general purpose telephoto (so long as you don't min autofocus being a bit slow). The image quality on mine is breathtaking, and f/2.8...

today only - 15% discount on eBay

I believe this is only until 8pm this evening (18/12). The discount code POWWOW15 applies to almost all types of merchandise and deducts 15% (or 75, whichever is least).

Re: The mighty 12-100

I guess the shots above were in very good light then, as they don't seem like high ISO.

You must have very steady hands if you can get sharp shots at 8 seconds! Can't imagine stabilisation would...

Re: The mighty 12-100

If you include MMF-3 with the 12-60 then they're almost identical in size but the 12-100 is lighter:

12-100 561g / D 78mm / L 117mm
12-60SWD 575g / D 79mm / L 99mm
MMF-3 100g / D ?...

Does picture mode 3 (Vivid) improve AF?

I read here http://www.ayton.id.au/wiki/doku.php?id=photo:olympusem5_af and elsewhere on his wiki that - even if you shoot in RAW - setting a picture mode of Vivid improves the speed and accuracy of...

Re: Merits or otherwise of buying / selling in MBP, WEX or LCE

The thread which spawned this one also had references to CEX (Complete Entertainment Exchange), which is - I think - a very different kettle of fish. It is quite a chain in the UK (though I think the...

Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

There's a substantial (though I think speculative) article here https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/features/olympus-om-d-e-m1x-what-we-want-to-see-and-what-were-likely-to-get which concludes by...

Re: To edit or not to edit! that's the question?

Depends on your purpose of course. If you're a documentary photographer wanting to highlight the ugliness introduced to rural scenes by insensitive intrusions then leave it as it is (or even choose a...

Re: Olympus 4/3 7-14 f4 and Panasonic 20 f1.7

I *love* my FT 7-14 (Super-High Grade in the old categorisation). Doesn't get a *lot* of use but there's nothing else like it (in my kit) for when I want it, and the results can be stunning. Hope...

Brilliant work. I like them in a way I didn't expect to, as normally I like architecture images to be quite representational, and I'm not normally a fan of heavy post processing. (I've sometimes seen...

Never heard of a trail camera. But it sounds useful. I've spent a while with E-M1 on a tripod focused on a much frequented perch in our garden, connected by Wifi to my phone with Olympus OI Share so...

Re: FW Update 12-50mm lens to Version 1.4

If you click on the tab labelled "Products of Olympus" (within the "standard zoom" heading) it lists 5 current lenses (12-40 f2.8 Pro, 12-100 f4 Pro, 14-42 EZ, 14-42 II R & 14-150 II). If you click...

Re: Tough Call

As well as being weather-sealed, E-M1 has better grip, and more sophisticated AF (intelligent selection of PDAF or CDAF depending on context) compared to E-M10 II. I think E-M10 II lets you use...

Re: Camera Body (Kent Area)

I'm getting confused in this conversation between E5 (which I take to be the old SLR version, and which some people hyphenate as E-5) and E-M5 (mirrorless, micro four thirds).

Re: Macro lens recommendations

Both the M43 60mm f/2.8 and the FT 50mm f/2 are excellent lenses. Only the former supports focus stacking. The Sigma (FT) 150 f/2.8 is also excellent and gives better working distance if your...
