Re: 14-54 mk 1 and ex 25?

The official Olympus line is that it is not useable on the 14-54 except at 54mm focal length due to 'focusing impossibility'. Even at 54mm it will only focus from 17.2 to 22.2 cm. MF only.

So...

Re: LR error message

That error message is utter gibberish to me. As a computer dunce, this is what I would try:
1. Check the files on the card. Are they readable if opened directly?
2. Quit and restart LR. I find...

Re: Macbook Air

Take a look at macupgrades.co.uk which has a lot of model specific info and links to upgrade videos. This should help you work out what you need. They also sell OWC ssd’s and have an upgrade service,...

Re: 100mm F2.8 ED UMC MACRO

There's a detailed review on Lenstip

https://www.lenstip.com/index.html?test=obiektywu&test_ob=450

He doesn't recommend it since it is expensive and underperforms compared to the Tamron 90mm...

Re: Where to host files for controlled sharing?

I use Google Photos. Storage is free and unlimited as long as each picture is smaller than (I think) 15MB. You can create an album and share it via an email link. You can share your entire library...

Re: HDEW..Ridiculous price.

They do have some very good prices on Olympus lenses at the moment. For example they have the 45mm f1.2 Pro at £689. Compare that to £1049 from SRS.

Re: Best practice external hard drives

Unfotunately not true in my case because i also tried. This might be a limitation of the Western Digital software based RAID.

Re: Best practice external hard drives

Unless you need your discs to be read by Windows PCs, stick with a standard Mac HFS+ journaled format. (There is a new format for Mojave, but I don't think you can format external HDs in it at the...

Re: Best practice external hard drives

IMHO, this is another disadvantage of the mirrored RAID. You are stumped until you replace the faulty drive, which means you need a spare drive on hand to avoid delays. This is fine in a enterprise...

Re: Best practice external hard drives

Hi Mike,

Opening up the G-tech drives and swapping the HDs should be straightforward, though I've not done it my my current 6TB G-tech since it is still under warranty. I used to use Lacie...

Re: Best practice external hard drives

Coming back to the OP, can you clarify the situation? You say you have 2x4TB back-ups, but also say the iPhoto library is on the external drives not on the MBP. This sounds to me like one of the 4TB...

Re: Olympus 1.4 mc 14

They are 6mm long, which is a standard size. I am happy to post the M2x6mm countersunk screw I have to you FOC. It is slotted, but does seem to fit well. I've tried it on the MC14 a few times and I...

Re: Olympus 1.4 mc 14

The MC14 is not a lens? This is an outrageous response. The loose screw is obviously defective workmanship; they should have some thread-lock on them. It's not as if you take them in and out yourself...

Re: Olympus 1.4 mc 14

Historically, the Japanese camera industry used JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) screws. However, I have removed one screw from my own MC14 and the thread seems to match metric ISO M2. Unfortunately,...

Re: Thornton Pickard 5x4" half-plate view camera?

The Lens Collector’s Vade Mecum has a short entry for Thornton-Pickard. They were based in Altrincham (a stone’s throw from me in Sale!). Dates are roughly 1890 to 1930.

They didn’t make lenses...

Re: Lens confusion

I bet they've sent you the old 4/3 E-system DSLR mount lens. This can be used on micro-4/3 but needs an adapter. If the seller said it was a micro-4/3 lens, i would send it back.

EDIT: the...

Re: Olympus M4/3 12-100mm £899.00 at Amazon.

It looks like Park are responding to the Amazon offer. I'm sure the ebay one is a grey import. HDEW are are asking £890 (grey import again). I'd probably go for an official Uk one for peace of mind,...

Re: Olympus M4/3 12-100mm £899.00 at Amazon.

I agree with you, Phil. When the promotion was originally launched, it was even less clear. The statment I quoted was added at a later date.

The 12-100 is a lens i would like to have, for use when...

Re: Olympus M4/3 12-100mm £899.00 at Amazon.

They do have another cash back promotion on at the moment, but it doesn't include the 12-100mm.

Are there any other...

Re: Olympus M4/3 12-100mm £899.00 at Amazon.

The T&C's seem pretty unambiguous to me

A sizeable extract below, but the key statement is

"This promotion is subject to the purchase of an OM-D E-M1 Mark II. Therefore to benefit the cashback...

Re: Olympus M4/3 12-100mm £899.00 at Amazon.

Unfortunately you also have to buy an EM1 Mk2 to get the cashback.

I am sorely tempted by the amazon offer, but I am not likely to use the lens much before next spring so it's not the best time to...

Re: Lens Fungus

Just to clarify any confusion, I was talking about 'white' LEDs, as commonly used to replace filament bulbs. IIRC, these work by either emitting in the UV, which stimulates emission from 3 colour...

Re: Lens Fungus

As has been pointed out, the UV from an LED may kill the fungus but this will be a long process (days or weeks of exposure). The LED should not be emitting in the UV-C band (required for germicidal...

Re: m42 lenses plus nikkor lens

Well, a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 is still a nice gift. Depending on version and condition, it is likely to still be worth £60 to £100. I would say it is worth getting an adapter for it to try. You might find...
