Re: New Olympus Patent: 400mm f4.0 MFT Lens

A 100-400/4.0 lens would need a 100mm diaphragm pupil - that's a seriously large lens. Bumping the max aperture to 5.6 drops it to 71mm, which might use a 77mm filter.

Remember, the 40-150/2.8...

Re: Oly 12-100 IS switch.

Many people, including many camera manuals, say to turn off IS when the camera is on a tripod. No sense risking the camera moving the sensor around when the camera shouldn't be moving anyway. I...

Re: F1.2 pro glass

I shot a model with the 45/1.2 and the 45/1.8 last week at a photo gear show in NYC. Even though the 1.8 (my lens) was on my E-M1 and the 1.2 (show lens) was on their E-M1.2, I was hard pressed to...

Re: Nikon Mirrorless

More than designed, Nikon and Canon have each sold more than 100 million lenses for their mounts. That's a lot of customer lock-in to be mailed rained as long as possible. Hence the emphasis on the...

Re: AWB....be aware.

So which image (auto or shadow) matches your perception of the scene at the time? Which is closer to your conception of what the image should look like?

Re: Zuiko 50-200 recommendation

Also be a aware that the non-SWD version is also quite nice, usually even less expensive, and no longer repairable by Olympus (at least in the US). But at the right price, one could treat it as...

Re: First proper trip with the EM1 - and I have some issues

Both the 10,000 shots and 10,000 hours assume “mindful practice” - that is, taking advantage of feedback (perhaps self feedback) to assess your performance and therefore take corrective action to...

Re: Digital and Analogue compared

Film is a tool. Digital sensors are a tool. Artists and crafters decide which tool best supports the expression of their art and craft. Any debate over which is “better” simply begs the question...

Re: EM-1 Shutter sticking closed

About a year ago I had to have Olympus replace the shutter when I had this problem. It seemed more severe in coldmwhether.

Mine was out of warranty, so I would act now while you're covered.

Re: Olympus lens + MMF1 + EC-14

Re: Olympus lens + MMF1 + EC-14

The 43 lenses are all designed for PDAF, which is only on the E-M1s in the m43 world. They’ll focus using CDAF on other cameras, but slower. I used to have the 50-200 and it was fine on the E-M1...

Re: Using a tripod

When shooting landscapes or other things which don’t move from a tripod, I use the two second timer instead of a remote release. I also have a Custom Myset which sets the camera for this use:

Re: Diffraction confusion!

Michael, a stunning image. Which breaks all the rules, thereby showing how silly rules can be:

- too much defraction
- glare
- purple blobs
- Backlit by the sun, which bleeds all over

Wish...

Re: It came away in her hands

FYIY Olympus USA just replaced my 8 month old hood. The engineering is too cute for the materials they chose, IMHO. The hood was on backorder; I wonder why?

Re: Corrugated iron - but not as we know it!

Re: EM1 MKII Lock Up

Just back from three weeks in Africa. Had one E-M1.2 lockup over ~4,000 shots; battery pop cured it. No problems with E-M1 (but I've never had a problem with it since acquired shortly after release)....

Re: AF Fine Adjustment on E-M1 Mk II

My interpretation of the reason is as follows:

PDAF works by calculating where focus SHOULD be, based on the out-of-phase appearance of the image to the focusing sensor, and instructing the lens...

Re: L-plate for E-M1 mkii?

The missing segment in the RRS plate allows you to open it all the way, although only at a 90 degree angle (plus or minus a little bit). But as the vertical section comes off, and the hex wrench is...

Re: Saving the camera settings

I relied on it after returning one E-M1ii and replacing it with another. The saved settings from the first camera loaded perfectly into the second.
