Batteries always removed from flash gun unless the flash is to be used - so for most of the time the battteries have been in the box.

Have you tried bouncing the flash pointing upwards off a reflector, this raises the source of the light and also spreads it out.

We have a problem, Portsmouth is being invaded Wednesday by a cast of thousands and me to catch a ferry to Spain so I hope the cast of thousands either travel down very early or relatively late.

Wider strap so spreads the weight out more. Not using the as spplied Oly strap means that when you sell the camera, box, strap the new owner can appear as if they have a new camera.
