Re: Any audio/AV buffs able to help?

The HDMI adapter for my Wii arrived and, yes it works but isn't perfect. The highest resolution the Wii can generate is 576i @50Hz. This works but there is an intermittent glitch in the top quarter...

Re: eBay saga

eBay is so much better than it used to be. I may have told this story once before - about ten years ago I ordered a replacement HP laptop power supply. I checked that the correct original HP-branded...

Re: Any audio/AV buffs able to help?

Fingers crossed - your switch box might be the reason it works.
In the kitchen we have 10 year old 22 inch Samsung TV on the wall and our old Tivo (Mk1) box refuses to talk to the TV over HDMI,...

Re: Any audio/AV buffs able to help?

An update for anyone interested. Julia rather observantly noted that the loud 'popping' sound was only coming from the rear left surround speaker. I had already noticed that this speaker was...

Re: Any audio/AV buffs able to help?

If you have had the old Tivo box for a long time (at least 3-4 years) you should be able to persuade them to upgrade it for free, but in my experience you have to ask. That's what I did. We had an...

Re: Any audio/AV buffs able to help?

I don't think the underlying problem of the 'popping' noise is 4K-related as it was there before I upgraded the TV to 4K and changed the Tivo box settings accordingly. I think it's a Virgin Tivo V6...

Re: Any audio/AV buffs able to help?

The popping sound from the Tivo Box is a known issue. It happens when changing Tivo channels and sometimes when the box is doing something while it's shutting down or waking up. It's not the sounds...

Re: Lightroom GPU

Righto - what was slowed down by enabling the GPU setting?

Mine is enabled but I have a fairly high end nVidia card here.

Any audio/AV buffs able to help?

I recently upgraded our main TV to a 4K one. Before that I had our set top box and DVD/Blu-ray connected to a Denon AVR-1908 AV Receiver and only used the TV as a sound-off monitor display. The...

Re: Panasonic launch the GH5s

It's a bit frustrating that the E-M1 shot was f/8 - probably softened from diffraction compared to the f/5.6 on the GH5S comparison shot. Also different lenses/focal lengths!

The GH5 does look...

Re: Lightroom GPU

What hardware are you running? I think the hardware acceleration option only helps if you have a really fast video card.

I'm actually not quite sure what your original question was trying to ask!...

Re: Panasonic launch the GH5s

One interesting claim made by Panasonic is that the GH5S can out-perform many full frame cameras when shooting 4K video. This is thanks to the smaller sensor (less rolling shutter issues) and the...

Re: Panasonic launch the GH5s

We were told that IBIS was unusable for in-car use when filming for Top Gear and Grand Tour type shows, even with IBIS switched off. The sensor still moved, apparently.

We had a server glitch and this has now been fixed.

I understand the site was only down for half an hour or so but I know many visitors attempting to access the e-group were disappointed.

Re: Demon deal, or deal with a demon?

Fair enough, but I have covered that in detail. For some reason it appeared that you reported two posts from this thread.

Can we please move on?

OK, if they have the option we may well do as well - I will certainly look into this.

Re: Change to visibility of the off-topic 'Lounge' board

I'll have a look at this - I don't think there is a facility built in as I had to modify the page code to achieve what I have done. There might be a plug-in that can do this, but I would be...

Re: Demon deal, or deal with a demon?

I think we're just messing around with semantics. Your words conveyed deep dissatisfaction with Jim Ford's generalism about the Remain camp being surprised "people would be stupid enought to votel...

Re: Demon deal, or deal with a demon?

Jim Ford is outspoken and, if I recall correctly, I have sanctioned him for some ill-chosen words in the past. However. I have looked very carefully at the post Hemlockwood took exception to and I...

Re: Hello from south of France

And of course tonight if you have clear skies you can also try to capture some meteors lighting up the sky as it's the time of year for the Gemenid meteors.

Re: Demon deal, or deal with a demon?

I urge you to reconsider. This site is first and foremost about Olympus system camera photography. Surely, that is why you joined up in the first place? A handful of members have debated Brexit here....

Re: Demon deal, or deal with a demon?

The vast majority of the comments in this thread have been honest and from the heart. I mean that for both sides of the referendum result. One or two comments have been a little 'nuanced' but on the...
