Re: Thinking of a Filofax

Shout at your cloud provider?

You would be lucky to find a telephone number that worked, let alone have a human being pick the phone up!

However, you raise an interesting point about...

Re: Reinventing the Wheel?

I can remember similar debates not that long ago. Before broadband it was quicker and cheaper to put a tape or even a pile of floppy disks in the post for next day delivery. :)

Reinventing the Wheel?

Some members here might remember when British Rail operated their Red Star Express Parcels service.

This was an excellent and very rapid service whereby customers could take parcels to their...

Re: The Boeing 2707

Interesting.

"A key design feature of the 2707 was its use of a swing wing configuration. During development the required weight and size of this mechanism continued to grow, forcing the team to...

Re: Handbrake use.

Well, that is what they are taught to do, but as I said, laziness and bad habits mean that many people simply use the footbrake.

Added to which, if stationary on a hill many people do not trust...

Re: Handbrake use.

I have just our children this very question. They both said that they were taught to stay in gear at lights (for a quick getaway in today's heavy traffic) with the handbrake applied.

They were...

Re: Handbrake use.

This is a common fault on many of the more expensive German cars. However, it might just be that their drivers are so self-obsessed and narcissistic that they wouldn't think to understand why anyone...

Re: Thinking of a Filofax

I have a very good memory for detail but appalling handwriting so I prefer to write up notes on my laptop, or on my iPad with Bluetooth keyboard. I do hand write some notes and scribbled diagrams...

Re: Handbrake use.

Exactly; on the basis that if I can see a vehicle following the driver can presumably see me too. If conditions are very foggy and I cannot see anything following I switch them on. Simples!

I...

Re: Herts. Police Web Chat

It seems the use of homophones is now compulsory on social meeeja. :(

Sadly this now seems to be filtering into working lives, with many people simply not realising that there is a difference...

Re: Handbrake use.

I think most vehicles now have a non-latching circuit to prevent rear fog lights from operating for six weeks after they were last needed, or until the bulbs burn out.

In my view the...

Re: Handbrake use.

I thought these were supposed to be removed now to reduce air pollution? I cannot say that I have noticed any improvements.

Re: Handbrake use.

Indeed. 'Riding the clutch' when driving is just as harmful. The clutch release bearing probably costs less than £10, but replacing one in a modern car will cost you £500 +.

I am sure that...

Re: Question For The Computer Techies

Actually, if you delve into the settings as described you can add multiple locations to libraries. So for example, you could have pictures or documents in two or more locations.

I am not entirely...

Re: Chinese phone spam

Do not trust caller ID!

I will say it again: Do not trust caller ID!

There are hundreds of mobile phone apps, many free, that allow you to call from whatever number you like.

These apps...

Re: Does Money really bring Happiness?

Let us hope so. :)

In fact virtually all of the legal work and insurance income from building, refitting and running these 'megayachts' comes straight to London. Curiously, most contracts around...

Re: Does Money really bring Happiness?

I just find it absurd that somebody with so much money should go to such lengths to avoid paying his ex-wife, and mother of his children a reasonable settlement.

I have known a lot of such people...

Does Money really bring Happiness?

I came across this story earlier today via a trade organisation, and I have to say it is as surreal as it is bizarre.

A Russian Oligarchís $500 Million Yacht is in the middle of Britainís...
