Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I'll say squarely up-front that I'm not much into photography these days, (or contribute to this forum much either), and only occasionally use my MFT camera (not Olympus any more), so I'm not in the...

Crucial M4 SSD anyone?

I rarely post on here any more, though still regularly browse, and for those of you who happen to use a Crucial M4 SSD in your PC, the following might prove worth knowing.

I don't know how many of you are following the New Horizons probe to Pluto, but I really want to draw your attention to this awe inspiring picture (well, to me at any rate), amongst others. It can be...

Re: Lichen and ice

The second one is my favourite. Those ice crystals are incredible. Reminds me of hypo crystals from my film days.

Re: Oh dear - I had a play with the Fuji XT1 today...

Paul, at the end of the day, whether or not Fuji applies noise reduction to the raw files is, to me at any rate, a moot point. It's the end result that counts. If I remember correctly there were a...

Re: Is this taking Expose To The Right (ETTR) too far?

Just as an addendum to this thread, I think it is worth reading Michael Reichmann's original articles (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/expose-right.shtml and...

Presumably Chevvy you are using it in session mode rather than the LR-like catalogue mode.

Re: Capture One Pro 8....

Join the club Ross. I know it can be a bit quirky, but if one can put up with that, its output can be great. It certainly seems to have done a good job on your highlight recovery.

I'm sure that...

Wink Re: Capture One Pro 8....

I feel your irritation Ross! Mind you, the 50% deal was a good one, and I expect in the fullness of time there'll be another deal on the Pro v7 to Pro v8 upgrade. Depends on how well you can hold off...

Re: Datacolor Spyder 4 Pro

And to add to that, I think any photographer who wants to share his/her images, either on the web or by print, really should use a colour managed workflow so that others can potentially see the...

Re: Datacolor Spyder 4 Pro

I don't think it can ever be made absolute, unfortunately, certainly so far as brightness is concerned, but plenty of folk outsource the printing so it can't be that hard. Certainly something to be...

Re: Datacolor Spyder 4 Pro

For calibrating the screen, the paper profile doesn't come into the equation, and if you are outsourcing the printing I don't see that you need to worry about it. The screen profile ensures that your...

Re: B & W of St Mary's Lighthouse

I like that Michael and agree with the other posts in that the original needed a bit more punch.

Re: Focus stacking - orchids this time

Now that's a very good question :D

Hmm, if I remember correctly it was due to several of things. Firstly, I didn't want to stop down too far (as one might do without stacking) because I wanted...

Re: Focus stacking - orchids this time

As I was using f5.6, which would have had a fairly small inherent depth of focus, I used quite a few - 31 frames. The first pic didn't have so much depth so I composed it with just 10 frames.
