Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Got any safari images? As this post seems to both be about the lenses and images taken, I'm happy to let this thread run to see how people are using both the Olympus 300 & 100-400 PanaL.

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

I elected to ignore possible repair issues, after all it hasn't proved to be an overly problematic lens. Accidental damage can be negated by home insurance cover (new for old). I might however have...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Been out and about with the 100-400 today & it is a pleasure to use, just my inability to find what I'm looking for in time to take the picture is quite frustrating (darn birds flitting around,...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

No I've never had LR, in fact not really into doing that much 'post' work - I've got a very old version of Elements, but the only way there to 'de-mist' is to create a blank white layer, set it to...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

My 14-140 has yet to arrive as Panasonic don't seem to have any stock at present, but they're being chased by the shop for a likely timescale.

As for the 100-400, these are through our rather...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

It does settle down when taking pictures but there is still an ever present level of noise - though it has to be said I seem to be very sensitive to things like this.
These types of noise...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

My Panasonic 100-400 arrived today but only had a quick play shooting some birds in the garden & on the bird feeders (through the patio doors). The zoom ring feels very nice from 100 to 300, then...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Well the Panasonic 100-400mm is on order as well as the 14-140, great all purpose lens and although I love my 12-60, which is superb, but decided to sacrifice a smigin of image quality for...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

As a quick update, I was let loose with the Panasonic 100-400 yesterday and have to say I was really impressed with the image quality when I looked at the results later when I got home, especially at...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

I'm just seeing the usual limited DoF issues you'd expect with this type of shot.

As for my current thoughts the Panasonic camera now arrived and feel more at home with this, so think I'll be...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Thanks for the insight, TBH I'm having a bit of a love/hate relationship my Olympus M5 camera, but the lenses are sooo nice. Have already decided to try out a Panasonic body - the GX8, didn't like...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

So for all you Panasonic 100-400 user, what is the focal length you most commonly use?

I'm still wavering as to whether to look toward the Olympus 300 or the Panasonic 100-400, I also came across...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Can you get a non-Oly MFT tele-converter? I know Tamron used to sell such a thing but it was only for specific lenses.

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

More than acceptable given the price, but I feel it would be nice to have a bit more reach, which the 75-300 won't provide so don't feel it would add anything apart from AF capability. I have to say...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Indeed especially as I already have the MC-14, it's just the versatility of the 100-400 zoom that I keep coming back to.

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Here are a few more shots, plus crops taken recently with the Samyang 300mm - I even feel the edge performance is more than acceptable for such a low cost lens;...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

TBH I was rather surprised by just how good this lens can be when you do manage to nail the focus point - but it is a skill I've not had to use in a long time and obviously no focus aids on the M5. ...

Re: Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Been out and about with the 300mm Samyang mirror lens and have to say that it really feels as though I need more reach and the issue of DoF when the subjects are quite close is also an issue as seen...

Decided to go long - but what to choose?

Currently I use the 40-150 pro for indoor studio work and got one with the 14-Mc's to add a bit of reach for some wildlife work. It was evident though that 210mm (420 equivalent FF) wasn't really...
